Fox and Wentzville have pulled the plug for tomorrow. Wonder if having an extended weekend could be playing a role in the decision as well Yeah Fox called early and more JeffCo schools caved. NW dist students were already off for teacher PD day which has been moved to online meetings now. Not many snow days plus already off Mon for holiday equals quicker trigger for a 4 day weekend.

Late 90's we had 2 overlapping broods...anyone remember the year? It was absolutely deafening around the clock. It was 1997 or 98. I remember because we had a lab puppy about 6mo old. Every time she went outside she would catch dozens and swallow them whole. I remember the sound of them going down her throat. For weeks her poop was cicada shells. The hostas were covered in them.

We had a rough week down here. Without power for almost 30 hours. Our Lab/Rott pup that was healthy or so we thought, passed in her sleep that morning(12 years). On top of that it’s believed our well pump was the casualty of the power surge we got when it did come back on. So yesterday we got that hefty fix/bill. But after all of that, we adopted a pup from the Southeast Humane Society. Her name is Libby, she’s loving the ice. Thinking a Weiner/Lab mix. Much needed snow day today after that run of bad luck. So sorry to hear of your dog’s passing. We lost our Golden last weekend in her sleep as well. Terrible feeling. We put our Golden to sleep Sat. It was sooo hard at only 9 years old. They are the best dogs and cancer magnets.

Very wet, sloppy flakes mixing in Arnold Literally just checked, singin in the rain by the police station. Mixing in here too. Pretty sure 920 is near me. I’m off Telegraph at top of the hill. ETA: I’m at 570’ elevation.

I asked my dear husband if he’d go outside and watch it come in and maybe sit in it for a few min and he said go right ahead! Mine is about the same. im sure I’ll be up multiple times to go outside, measure, clear off the table and measure again. With the heaviness and compaction it’s the only way to get an accurate measurement. I’m off Wed, hubby is going to WFH, 2 teacher kids will be off, one of their friends staying here on leave from army (Germany), other son works at 4am. He’s the one this mom will worry about getting out.

My work canceled our Christmas lunch party on Thu. I’m glad they are taking it seriously. They plan on sending most everyone home by the time the party was supposed to start. Closed Fri to those that can’t work from home. Very grateful

If it does start as rain it would be very briefly likely less than 30 minutes. It could dilute the brine there spraying everywhere some. Honestly, with rapid onset of precipitation, heavy rates and rapid temperature drop, pre treats will only be effective for a short time at best. Roads will get icy, flash freezing very rapidly once the precipitation starts. I will be out in the storm doing snow removal, but if it didn’t have this as a job I would not be out from mid morning on Thursday into sometime of Friday. It’s going to be very difficult on the roads . I basically told my wife and kids no driving Thursday and probably not Friday until the wind dies down and they get the roads in good shape. I would expect some form of ice covered/snow packed roads Thursday into Friday. Hopefully I’m wrong Thanks. I think we’ll be safe. It’s better to reschedule, even if it takes a month or more to get everyone’s schedules coordinated than never be able to schedule with that person because something happened. Thanks to all who chimed in. Much appreciated.

Is this starting as rain and then quickly dropping temps for a flash freeze; washing any pre-treatment away? Had a birthday lunch on the calendar at Lotawa Creek for a month. Would love to try to get it in if this is later in the afternoon. I’m waffling back and forth. Arnold to O’Fallon IL isn’t a short commute.

youtu.be/ZGsW37JHLeogo to 7:44 mark. That is a car gwtting ejected out of the tornado. It has to be! Likely a cow... With headlights on the cow? The light flying thru the air had to be a car.

Dog felt the need to go outside and play ball. Pouring sleet in Arnold. I think there’s some rain mixed in with it.

Hard to measure with all the blowing. I had a 12” deep box on my back deck hoping to keep blowing in and out minimal. Measured and dumped out at about 7am with 4.5”. Measured 2.75 additional. Combined with about .75” of stuff yesterday I’m at 8.0” all in give or take 1/2” for this storm. Will see if fellow Arnold peeps are close. Snowstorm920 is about 1/4mi away I think. Shrapnel? in lower area maybe? Elkay is due east on the other side of the river and almost always about the same. I tallied up 7” just across the highway from you. This stuff was hard to measure accurately though. You method sounds much more accurate than mine which was just measuring in a relatively sheltered area. Thanks. I thought you were catty-corner from me on the other side. Going with 7.5”. Great fun to watch

Glenn Z reported at 4pm 5" in Arnold, seems pretty low. Thanks, I thought he was a little low too. 7.5 sounds good. I’m about 1/2 mile down Telegraph from JeffCo.

The joy of a Golden Retiever and her ball pouncing and plowing thru the snow can put a smile on your face so fast. Flakes slightly larger, actually visible instead if just tiny. I put out a pretty deep box last night (about 12” tall) and it has 4.5” in it. No idea if some extra has blown in or out so take that for what it’s worth.
Chris Renier at Arnold Denny’s looked like he shoveled about 3-4” deep on his last broadcast and he’s in the open parking lot on the hill.

Woke up and looked on my deck. Nothing on railings or deck other than the concrete sleet, couldn't see anything falling. Turned on the light and very tiny flakes coming down almost sideways. The snow box surprisingly looked to have a few inches in it. Sure would like flakes I could actually see. These are like the other snow system where I had only tiny size. Will get a few more hours sleep (if I can because now I'm anxious) and check again.
