Wow... what a day! I am finally home. I saw both 2017 and this year's and agree this was better! For starters, it wasn't hot and humid... it was mild and dry...just perfect weather! Hanging with the SLU meteorology students, launching balloons, was a blast! The greatness of the day was not tarnished by the nearly 7 hour drive home! Traffic was BRUTAL! But nobody was too riled up about. I thought everyone went with the flow... riding the high from the eclipse. We were definitely blessed with an amazing day. I cannot lie, I actually teared up a little at the fact that I was so priveleged to be part of it. Same here, was holding back tears due to the beauty of it and how everything came together so perfectly. I don’t think that day will ever be topped for me weather wise. It was spectacular and worth every inconvenience.

Just got back. Otherworldy. One of the coolest things ive ever seen. The way the light ripples when totality was almost there, huge flash of light when totality started and stopped, the corona, bugs going silent, falling to the ground and crickets chirping, the incredible 360 sunset, something I will not soon forget. My one year old daughter was even staring and ponting at it, yelling sun! That 4 mins and 5 seconds will be forever burned into my brain. I was soooo stressed about the weather and it ended up being absolutely perfect. So who’s going to Egypt in 2027?

Me and the wife are bringing our 1.5 year old daughter and dog to the bank of the mississippi from the Illinois side, near Carbondale. We will see how it goes with the 1.5 year old. She may not remember it, but I certainly will. Hoping for clear skies and safe travels for all.

How bad do you all think the roads will be Monday? With missouri/illinois being probably the best cloud cover spot outside of vermont/maine, I hope it isnt too bad.
Update on some popular spots: -Jackson Falls parking lot full -Garden of the Gods recreation area parking lot full -Cedar Lake boat ramp parking lot full -Indian Point, backpackers parking lot, Garden of the Gods, full -Dutchman Spillway parking lot full last updated: 4/6/2024 12:55 pm CST

It appears this time the Arch effect is working in our favor. There was another map I saw from the NWS that showed an even smaller hole that this right over the mid-Mississippi River valley. That’s the map from yesterday. Check today’s map, they filled in the gap with clouds lol.

So it shows I’ll be under 98% of the Eclipse what would that look like? Imagine watching a movie from the parking lot, all you can hear is the bass rumble through the wall. Totality is one of the wonders of the world. More spectacular and awe inspiring than an ef5 tornado. People spend 10s of thousands of dollars and travel thousands of miles just to get the chance to experience it for a few minutes. A partial is not even close to being in the same ballpark. Definitely get there if you can. If not, hopefully we are all still around in 2045.

Wowwww looks really good for Monday now. I agree that the weather gods owe us this after the multiple miserable winters we’ve had. I’m targeting my favorite rock climbing destination in southern ill near pomona.

All eyes to Monday now. Cloud cover forecast looks much better now than it did just a few days ago, with the clouds/rain moving even further south and east. Should be an epic event. I cant wait.

A lot could change still but mexico, texas, and arkansas look like 100% clouds for April 8th. Totally sucks for everyone who has nonrefundable reservations there. We may be in the sweet spot with partially cloudy.

Just please be clear on April 8th. That is all I ask of the weather gods. It will be a worthy exchange for the hottest february in human history.

Lol. It's been spring all winter minus 10 days. Everything has looked disgusting for winter weather lovers around here for a minimum of 2 years straight It’s been the most brutal winter I can remember. Just straight blowtorch for 90% of the time and then one week of dry cold. Couple of light dustings of snow and one weak ice storm. Hope we can overachieve tomorrow.

It's crazy that we went from a storm that dropped snow with single digit/sub zero temps a few years ago to two years of "spring like" storms in the middle of winter. Cold air or moisture. We get to pick one lol.
