Nasty looking bow echo out near St. Joe with a well developed MCV/wake low and rear-inflow jet...may be a derecho in progress I was wondering if it can be called a deracho at this point considered its has remained intact for more than 100 miles and looks like it will hold together for a while longer. Was thinking the same thing. Nothing crazy like 100 mph winds(plz)but still classic hot summer air long running bowed storm with his winds

No clouds or rain this morning so nothing to stop storms from firing this afternoon and evening right? RIGHT! Unless you don’t water your lawn, then no rain for you!

Clear blue sky with sky high humid and temps jumping. It’s not surprising they pushed it north, plenty of juice in the air still

That’s as a wild 45 minutes out here in eureka. No power no estimate on restoration. Good thing I got the new truck with a generator. Didn’t want more hail but get to use the new toy at least and test it out

Severe Storm Watch has just dropped. 3:20PM to 11PM.
Still not seeing anything for St. Louis Metro, but certainly for the southern counties.
nothing for metro area, which is kinda surprising

I noticed the UKMET was showing an outbreak of discrete cells along the front late tonight Don’t know if I buy that, but that’s certainly a worst case scenario Ill pass and take the next model run plz.

This setup seems eerily similar to March 12th, 2006...a bit different synoptically, but not by much...and possibly, more impressive. wasnt that more of a pop up and fizzle setup? I was high school then and outside all day for that and remember we had hail different times in Affton

Its just gonna be a line of watches all at once isn't it? probably, the basically Mississippi, west 300 miles from Iowa to Arkansas... just a guess. def have not seen a setup like this in a long time.

I wouldn’t be jumping on the super juiced solutions. Those haven’t verified at all this season. That only applies to snow when it comes to a heavy rain setup, you can bet money the juicy solutions will verify It’s only funny cause it’s true

Friday setup reminds me of the match maybe April? 2010 system with thunder snow transitioned during morning rush hour. I left my house in Affton at 6:30 with thunderstorm and by the time I got to Manchester and 270 it was 4 inches of snow on the ground.

Really need more radar coverage down there on the Arkansas border can't see any reason for that severe warning I was just looking at that. Literally can only see what appears to be a light shower on radar yet it's warned Check radar and it’s clear why

Fun fact: Caribou Maine had the same number of SPC severe watches all of last year as St. Louis Missouri...4. I'm glad spring is almost here so we can complain about the lack of storms. Seems like the only weather we can count on anymore is searing heat or flooding rain. we are going to okc in 2 weeks till May. Im sure all the storms will come here instead. Im strangely excited

On an earlier conference call, MODOT did mention that the forecast they use called for a later onset in the metro and an earlier onset south of the metro. They brought in crews early south of metro however didn’t plan to have crews start til later, I believe 7, in the metro area. When precip started they had to go into scramble mode for a while to mobilize crews. I know we all have our opinions, however having some insight into their operation at times, I do believe they try to do the best they can do managing with available resources and crews and the vast area they are responsible for 100%. Been on the private side of operations and making the pre treatment calls and it’s never easy. It was eye opening how costly making a wrong call one way or even waiting to long to make a call the cost could be and that was a 3 acre, 4 building campus. I don’t miss having to make those calls one bit.

modot does interstates and state highways(a lot of major roads) its your muni or the county that does the side roads nows. I stand corrected! The county treated the heck out of my subdivision! Not biggie, part of why some times it can be block to block on how well prepped/cleared roads are.
