One thought that crosses my mind with storms like these is the amount of little kids turned weather weenies that will be born this week Hmmmmmmmm.... like in 2006? I think I had the bug a little before that... but that year was one for the books. Crazy summer derechos, epic winter storm... how time flies.

Happy for you guys. We're going to try and turn 0.5" of QPF into the whereabouts of 10 or 11" in Colorado Springs.
Going to be a terrific amount of water for the east side of our state after record low precip since August.

Some watches being converted to warnings across northern Indiana Wonder if LSX will pull the trigger with the afternoon package today? not much else to look for in terms of impacts. everyone's getting hit with a lot of something.

Long shot but is there anyway to go back and look at model data/soundings from the 2011 storm? not all that pretty but it gets the job done. www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/ncepreanal/

Yall are trending in the right direction. Looks like it will be a little too fast and unamped as it rolls over the terrain here to put down anything huge. LSRs will have to carry us

I had covid for the second time this past week. First time last January included a lot of nausea and other "odd-feeling" symptoms. This second time around, felt exactly like any other cold/flu I've had in my life minus the fever. Got Pfizer in April.
This time around, it started with a sore throat last Wednesday but tested negative on two nose swab tests (Wed/Thu) and finally tested positive on Friday when my nose clogged up and started experiencing nasopharangeal symptoms.
Worst day was Saturday night into Sunday. Feeling mostly back to normal.

Absolutely nutso snow ratios with this event here today. Several reports of 1.5" to 2" of snow with less than 0.06" qpf.
30-35:1 stuff.

crazy stuff out here today. Basically an area the size and density of Edwardsville, IL just burned down. Hundreds of homes expected to be lost.

This whole thing has me wondering? So, the late 1940’s and into 1950’s were kind of known to be cold throughout winter, with average to maybe above snowfall. (Just thinking out loud). The mid 2010s were similar, cold and average to above snowfall. I wonder if there is a downstream correlation to nuclear events in Japan that would support this?

The difference in Christmas morning temperatures on the 00z gfs and 00z ggem are comical. If the gfs is right we are in the 60s. If the ggem is right, we are in the 20s. Regardless, at least both models have the big cold coming into the US after Christmas. I’m targeting the 28th for the region’s first accumulating snow. Chicago will shatter its record for latest measurable snow (surely along with numerous other areas in the Midwest). We're going on 17 days already here in the Springs.

So I heard you like wind reports What a massive area of real estate where a high risk would of verified That’s about as top end of a wind event you’ll see Arguably the SPC would have been justified in hoisting two high risk convective outlooks this month. Both met the official report density and unofficial magnitude requirements. yeah... yesterday's storm had been robust for a while now. definitely have to agree with this tweet on the situation too.

Something else to keep an eye on tomorrow; the state of Minnesota has never recorded a tornado in the month of December. They certainly have a chance tomorrow. Much of the state is still covered in snow as well. this tweet sums it up pretty well too... crazy system
