18z rgem smokes the heart of the metro Wednesday night into Thursday. Temps are around zero at the surface and -20 C at 850, so maybe 20-1 ratios. Several opportunities for snow lining up now. Hi res NAM has a similiar look Wednesday night. Big area of snow lifting SW to NE over the area

As expected advisory for here...warning in the north. And it only goes to 1pm Wednesday. The watch went thru thursday morning. Forecast lows keep going up for wed night. Im shocked. I would think you would be happy to trade subzero cold for a couple inches of snow. Nam and rgem are all over it.

Yep increased cloud cover Wednesday night will keep temps a few degrees warmer, but I think everyone would trade a few degrees for a few inches of snow

I heard more geese flying over my house in the past hour than i can ever remember at any one time. Geese are migrating heavily right now. There are several thousand sitting on a nearby neighborhood lake.

Last year was purely a radiational cooling setup...this event is driven largely by intense CAA...similar to 2014 but without deep snow cover.

I can’t remember the last time the RGEM didn’t look good for a system around here
I think we need to start calling it the “hype model”

The 18z ggem is like a carbon copy of the rgem (would be like the gfs and nam being in lockstep). This thing has potential, and Snowman99 will have to stop complaining about temps coming in warmer. Win win

So if the wind chill is already down to 3 degrees is there a reason with the high winds tonight that there is no talk of a negative wind chill?

Nice snow squall in Wentzville I kinda figured we might see a few squalls after seeing the radar light up with streamers earlier. Models bring a chunk of -20* h85 temps through this evening with a hint of cyclonic curvature remaining.

I would assume so. I just saw no wording from NWS regarding tonight. Understandable that there is more focus on tomorrow night.

Looks like we've got some river effect going on to me. I swear this is a thing around here. Kinda wonder if it’s enganced by Labadie power plan as well. It’s been light snowing/flurrying all evening but it’s seems like the quick dusting it keeps producing sublimates within 20 mins. Very weird outside right now actually.

The name has a strong vorticity move through tomorrow afternoon/early evening. And has some decent lift. But prints out like no precip. Yeah it's a weird column but it's actually really nice for large dendrites. We should see something given the power of this system. Tomorrow at Belleville for 00z UTC.

Even if we just got an inch down tomorrow afternoon, that would help temps fall a couple extra degreees tomorrow night. That will have to be watched closely
