Is it just me or have the radar rain estimates continually under-estimated the actual rainfall for at least the past year or so? For example, the only 2 reports posted here are both over an inch while the Storm Total Precip on the NWS website would show both place between a half inch and an inch with only a small sliver going over an inch. I don't remember this being a problem years ago but it seems lately that the actual reports are always higher than the radar estimates. Any thoughts or ideas (or am I just crazy)?

I honestly don’t pay attention to radar estimated totals.

I am more and more disgusted the more I read about the lawsuit against TWC. If what is alleged in the lawsuit is true... there should be jail time for a couple of people at TWC for attempting to obstruct justice. Just disgusting.

I have read and reread all the information I can and I agree. This is going to hurt a lot of people and more so those directly involved. The storm chase scene is already very congested as you already know, and many chasers have openly criticized other chasers and larger weather companies on their practices.

We need the entire "chase" community to go back to the days of doing more "spotting" and less "chasing" Plus, in this day and age of webcams... it is getting easier and easier (and cheaper) to put up vast networks of webcams. I am somewhat surprised cell phone companies have not done this already.

NOAA hourly shows likely storms from 3 on but I am not seeing anything until late tonight on models?? What are your thoughts, experts?

And according to the plaintiff's complaint to the court in just 14 of their 223 posted videos the pair can be seen running over 80 stop signs or traffic lights.

Too many adrenaline junkies, thrill seekers and cowboys out there these days which is making it dangerous to chase on outbreak days. When one of the utmost respected chaser and scientist(Samaras) gets killed from a miscalculation people should take notice that chasing is enherently dangerous. Often the biggest danger is not the tornado itself but the driving conditions which is the case with the lawsuit. I can see the Plaintiff's position but ultimately the victims made the decision to persue chasing in a reckless manor and it cost them their lives. If I felt like an employer was knowlingly putting myself or others in danger I would respectfully decline.

When it comes to Tornado Chasing why aren't there more drones used?

When it comes to Tornado Chasing why aren't there more drones used? Because drones don't like wind and could easily be blown away and it would have to be a waterproof drone as well. I could see a drone being used though under ideal conditions but you couldn't get too close because of the wind especially when the wind up a few hundred feet can be much stronger than at the surface. You also have range limitations of a around 4 miles and flight time of less than 30 mins.

Has anyone else noticed the "not secure" before the url on this site? Nothing to fear...all it means is that this site does not use SSL Certificates and data transfer back and forth between the browser and server is not encrypted. It also theoretically means that there is nothing certifying that this is the actually domain that it says that it is. None of this is relevant for a weather enthusiast discussion board. Worst case is that a man in the middle intercepts one of our rants and can read them in plain text. You have to know the route that the data is going to take, which can change every time other than the first hop from your device to your wireless router. Given that anyone can read the forum anyway, it doesn't really matter. Over the past year, not using https can begin to affect your Google search rankings, but that probably isn't a really big deal either. You should note that any page they have that does have sensitive information (Login, Registration, Purchases) does use https and you will see a lock in the same area that now says not secure. Proboards doesn't even offer SSL Certificates at this time for individual boards.

I will second that statement in bold. If I were to list chasing dangers I'd probably put tornadoes themselves 3rd. By FAR the biggest fear for me is an auto crash. Me personally, I consider lightning more dangerous too (if I'm getting out the vehicle).

Absolutely. I had a VERY close call with a strike while chasing a storm up near Macomb while I was at school there. Pulled off of the road and almost as soon as I got out of the car a bolt struck about 200yds away in a bean field...I was standing about 30ft from a telephone pole so I was lucky it didn't hit that.

I could only imagine the amount of aggravation in this room if this was a winter storm and it was to be all snow for us. (Radar screen shot from 2:45pm 3-29-19) 😂

Last year I had lightning strike about 50 feet in front of me while I was on my porch. Strangest thing I’ve ever heard and felt. Amazing the sound of the electricity. The goosebumps were real. I’ve definitely become more careful in recent years when it comes to lightning.

The NAMs continue the trend at 18z with the potential for a period of wet snow tomorrow as the system moves out. It has been hard to buy that much cooling... but these spring systems have surprised before. The track of the vort max would argue further north with any snow... but who knows at this point. I at least mentioned some "wet flake potential" northwest of here this morning.

West Central Nebraska near North Platte is getting another dump of wind blown snow. Not up to the level of a blizzard but the video I saw looked like miserable driving conditions.
