Looks like a rough commute in Beaumont this evening... Surprised the control box isn't shorting out. Was watching streaming video from KHOU on You Tube. Makes me so glad I don't live there.

Same here, in Mascoutah less the crabgrass Don't know about anyone else but I'm getting to the point where I could use a little rain. It's been pretty much bone dry in Marissa for the last month or more. All the rain that's been falling around the metro has been north of us. Grass is dormant. I mowed some of the crabgrass and dust last weekend.

Having weather station issues. Changed the battery, no luck. I was sitting at -41 and now it's not registering temp and saying that it's 2% humidity. LOL
Hot weather needs to go, but thankful that I don't live in TX. Dreaming of winter. Grabbed this from the Farmer's Almanac:
Long before today's technology existed, people relied on nature to predict harsh weather—and some if it still holds true in modern times. Here are 20 signs that a rough winter is coming, according to folklore, so you can keep an eye out for more evidence:
1. Thicker-Than-Normal Corn Husks. 2. Woodpeckers Sharing a Tree. 3. The Early Arrival of the Snowy owl. 4. The Early Departure of Geese and Ducks. 5. The Early Migration of the Monarch butterfly. 6. Thick Hair on the Nape of a Cow’s Neck. 7. Heavy and Numerous Fogs During August. 8. Raccoons With Thick Tails and Bright Bands. 9. Mice Chewing Furiously To Get Into Your Home. 10. The Early Arrival of Crickets on the Hearth. 11. Spiders Spinning Larger-Than-Usual Webs and Entering the House in Great Numbers. 12. Pigs Gathering Sticks. 13. Ants Marching in a Line Rather Than Meandering. 14. Early Seclusion of Bees Within the Hive. 15. Unusual Abundance of Acorns. 16. Muskrats Burrowing Holes High on the River Bank. 17. “See how high the hornet’s nest, ‘twill tell how high the snow will rest.” 18. The Size of the Orange Band on the Woollybear (or Woollyworm) Caterpillar. 19. Squirrels Gathering Nuts Early to Fortify Against a Hard Winter. 20. Frequent Halos or Rings Around the Sun or Moon Forecasts Numerous Snowfalls.

Here's another ACARS sounding site to bookmark. Here you can download the raw sounding data in text format and load into a profile viewer like SharpPy. sharp.weather.ou.edu/soundings/acars/

The EPS has well above normal temps here with a big fat ridge overhead through early October. So that's awful.

Looks like I may have misread the pattern if models are correct...would think with the blocking up near Greenland the trof sets up further east across the Plains and Midwest but models want to dig a lot of energy into the W coast which pumps the ridge up across the E US.

Hmmm i peeked at the gfs from noon today and i saw a pretty impressive cool down in the first week of october...and the 540 kisses nebraska. For us, that means lows well down into the 40s. Now, i know theres a bit of climatology bias in that gfs but just thought id mention it.

Are they remodeling the Fox 2 news set? The newscasters are in the weather center (and looking like fish out of water and very uncomfortable) and Angela is over at the green screen
