So does it look like we are done for the storms today?

60% of people in the US has a significant health problem like diabetes. Precaution is the way to go. Even a 1% death rate is huge. Imagine if 50 million people get sick. 1 % die. Way more than the 30000 that die from the flu.

Way more than the 30000 that die from the flu. Where did you get that statistic? That sounds impossible. I don't believe that for a second. We all have to be careful about how we extrapolate statistics... as they are easily missunderstood or missapplied. That is one reason I havent ventured into numbers quite like this. But in general, I think we have to remember we are responsible to each other and our leaders are responsible to us for doing everything we can to mitigate the impact of the unknown. What we know is that we have no idea how widespread the virus really is in this country... and as we have seen... we know if left unchecked vulnerable populations will be severely impacted. It is going to suck big time having our lives disrupted... especially for those (and hopefully I/you included) who do not fall into the vulnerable populations. But I am willing to take the lumps, inconvienence, etc. if that means my mom and son stay healthy... or at the very least there is a hospital bed and care for them if needed. I think folks who are less vulnerable and see themselves that way need to understand they have a responsibility to take care of the others... and that means making common sense decisions that can dramatically reduce the exposure and intensity of the outbreak. I get that people are upset...it sucks...in many ways it sucks. But what will suck more is if any of us lose a loved one...even one. So lets all suck it up and care for those who need care. I accept and understand and respect that there are strongly opposing opinions on this. But wouldnt the best thing to happen be that we nip this thing in the bud now??? Off soapbox.

I feel we are going to extremes though and it is causing panic that will lead to civil unrest. I mostly blame the big media. People are generally stupid.

I have 63* with scattered times of sunshine. I see the Tornado Watch expanded to the west some. Just 1 county below me now. 7 miles west of De Soto.

NAM still printing out stupid levels of sleet for the metro Saturday morning Gonna be interesting to see how that plays out...the NAM continues to be bullish in keeping the cold air entrenched and it usually handles these setups well.

Why is there a flash flood watch for JeffCO? I see a FFW for JeffCo, IL but not JeffCo, MO. With all the rain talk it will just be a matter of time though.

Canadian prime minister’s wife is positive for Coronavirus with mild symptoms. Between that and Tom Hanks it is definitely starting to look like a hell of a lot more people have it than currently recorded as others have mentioned. I say that because higher profile people are more likely at this point to get checked out for mild cold or flu like symptoms. Hell, there may have been millions of cases already. Crazy how differently it manifests itself among age groups. Not your great grandpa’s pandemic.

Let it be known the nam behaved horribly on this storm. The gfs was atrocious.
Huge shifts north on the 00z run of the nam. 36 hour lead time is all you get with that model

Well, my trip to Xavier to pick up some books and medical supplies just turned into move-out day 2020! Xavier has extended remote learning to the rest of the year...not just Easter. Thank goodness this wasn't two weeks ago when I was super sick. Crazy times.
