Chris, you missed the slush that accumulated Sunday morning. In Bellevue the rain hitting the trees sounded like sleet, but it was liquid. From my house to work in South Omaha (about 10ish miles) it changed over to snow. It does seem early for the area

~15 in of snow or 1 in of sleet, or 0.5" glazing factoring in less moisture supply, more dry slots during the winter season, and any possible situation where the thermal gradient above is just 1* too warm in the cold layer (not letter) haha. Seriously if you believe in the cycling length pattern (I do) then this storm is promising for our upcoming winter. I'm still going to keep expectations low!

Seems like the chances of us seeing our first flakes are increasing for early-mid next week. Looks to get real toasty again around or just after Halloween however into mid-November as it looks now.

Already some 6”+ reports coming out of the Des Moines area Definition of freak snowband... CAMs whiffed HARD on it. Looks like the best performers were the GFS/NAM and Rgem... not often you get to say that.

Definition of freak snowband... CAMs whiffed HARD on it. Looks like the best performers were the GFS/NAM and Rgem... not often you get to say that. I rarely put much weight in the short-range CAMS during the cold months for that reason...if the setup favors mesoscale banding, the RGEM or NAM usually does pretty well...and at times, the EURO does too.

Amazing the gradient between soaking rains and hit or miss showers either side of 44 over the past 24 hours.
Hopefully we can set up an area-wide soaker later in the week or early next week. Central IL has been ravaged by field fires this month.
