Philly hasn’t had an inch of snow since March 2019 and it’s looking increasingly likely they get the shaft with this nor Easter. Tough pill to swallow KTVI showed a live stream from there at 5 PM. Looks like the string is broken. They already have an inch.

Yes I saw Philadelphia was rising above freezing and may hit 37 with rain most of the night. New York was snowing good though

Just wondering how can winter suck when it's not Winter till Monday. Seriously this winter blows winter starts when we can start getting accumulating snow... It's all about November 5th onward is legit time that we can track systems. It's already December 17th most of us have had nothing but one day of flurry maybe two. Nothing to track man that's what it comes down to you having something to track.

So while we lament about the lack of snow around here while the northeast gets plastered I thought you guys might find this interesting. A very large iceberg which broke off from Antarctica in 2017 may have just gotten itself lodged in the shallow waters off of South Georgia Island. The iceberg is huge; about the size of the island itself. Scientists are worried that it may have gotten stuck on the island shelf and will park itself there for years. The first image is the Southern Hemisphere full disk. The second image is zoomed in on South Georgia Island. You can clearly see the iceberg and how large it is.

My question regarding the iceberg is, what are they worried about exactly? Does it owe back rent?

That's what happens when you don't put a leash on your icebergs.

00z gfs back to dumping some energy in the southern stream around Christmas Eve. Just needs to have more of it so it can meet up with the arctic blast The energy gets absolutely pulverized under the strength of the northern jet. Doesn't seem like we’re going to get the moisture and cold to link up but plenty of time for things to change

It's all about November 5th onward is legit time that we can track systems. It's already December 17th most of us have had nothing but one day of flurry maybe two. Nothing to track man that's what it comes down to you having something to track. jeff you are always optimistic and thats appreciated. but the pattern as a whole means the country as a whole is lacking snow. the snow season with st louis potential is really clicking along and so far, nothing of interest in the next 2 weeks. this is what gets the corner restless. our best snows come between 11/5 to 3/5. yes it can snow outside the timeframe, but march is when we start to look for severe wx and if it does snow, its gone in a day or 2. this conversation comes up every year, but these guys are looking a week or two in the future. bottom line is, we need more cold and more storms to track. day after day, cpc says above normal temps for next 2 weeks. global models are meh. i think honestly we shld see good things after christmas into january but if we dont start seeing hints of it soon, we will run out of time.

A lot of that snow in Birmingham fell with precipitable water around 0.5" (or less). Just to reinforce that it doesn't take an incredibly moist atmosphere to produce a lot of snow; the extreme frontogenesis, fetch off the ocean, and high LSR more than compensates. Frontogenesis was resulting in the -EPV scale being maxed on the SPC mesoanalysis page...I think that's the first time I've seen that co-located with a mesoscale snow band. Likely some robust slantwise convection going on.

Looks like NYC was able to ward off the WAM and get 6"+. Why can't we ever get lucky?

18* 7 miles west of De Soto this morning.....Good to see everything is right in the world.....We will warm up enough before the next batch of moisture gets too close. I am sure the proverbial 'dodged a bullet' will be tossed around when it starts to rain on Saturday. It would be nice to get hammered/crushed/buried by snow two or three times this year.
