MoDot has elected not to treat roads... lookout! You gotta love it when they decide to save a little in the budget vs providing safety for travelers in the event something does pan out in the metro. This makes me shake my head. But it certainly wouldn’t be the first time MODOT neglected to take a chance and then realize their mistake too late in the game. 🤦‍♂️

MoDot has elected not to treat roads... lookout! In all honesty if they was to put roc salt down prior to precip it most likely just fly to the side of the road with the passing cars/trucks. Not saying it’s the right move though

Not saying it’s the right move though The roads are at freezing temps. All it takes is a short moderate burst to make travel a nightmare

They will be out once the roads get covered. Reactive not proactive.

They could have been spraying liquid salt brine the last couple days . That would have worked well and it buys you some time once it starts snowing. None of the highways were pre sprayed with liquid salt brine before this storm. It’s really sad and poor planning by MoDot management.

I’m not going to beat the dead MODOT horse but it seems like every time they decide not to treat, it turns out to be a situation that bites them in the butt. Chris did his part by playing the better safe than sorry forecast and putting it out there. He did it for the safety of others. And because the NWS didn’t put out an advisory for STL, MODOT takes the chance. I believe the NWS is also wrong for not putting an advisory out for the metro. It’s better for them to play it safe as well because they are so heavily relied upon.

Honestly im starting to feel most will get at least a dusting and that is because I feel at least at the surface the air is not as dry as models think. I mean it is 21 at my house with dp of 9 for 56 percent humidity, lambert is 24 with do of 8 with 50 percent, the dew point depression of 10 to 15 is not as bad as what I remember models showing thus morning with temps of 23 and dp aof 0 to 3 or a 20 to 25 dp depression.
Just my thoughts is all this is in my opinion. Please someone tell me I am either wrong or maybe on to something.

Ya were really going to need to watch early Saturday morning for freezing drizzle/rain This is a pretty crazy freezing drizzle sounding off the 18z NAM for Saturday morning That’s a ridiculous low level inversion with some almost 50° air being pumped over mid 20s air at the surface

Which setting should be used to track the snow on RadarScope?

Which setting should be used to track the snow on RadarScope? The base reflectivity what I posted was the composite. On that composite some of that might be cloud level ice nuclie. some guidance shows that precipitation that developed over us now breaking through along and just south of 70.

Flurris passing by the lights as well now

What exactly do you mean by flurries passing by the lights? As in, you observe flurries? That could be an important bit of information if that’s the case.
