Man. Working in pharma sucks right now. Politics and my job are far too intertwined and my life just sucks right now as head microbiologist and knowing the science I know. We help make test kits and are working to make a vaccine but still I want this over now and sorry I'm just venting. Chris if this is out of place just delete it and let me know.

7.7 Earthquake between Cuba and Jamaica. I don't recall seeing any big quakes in that region before. They are looking for damage in Miami so it must have been felt there though that's just a guess. A 7.7 is no joke. I wonder if it was really deep. Didn't hear anything about any Tsunami's. Epicenter is in the ocean. Thats a strike slip fault like san andreas there. The megathrust quakes that cause tsunamis are on subduction zones.

1. Any winter storm in St. Louis that offers the potential for a glaze of ice or up to 3” of snow is not a nuisance. This is not buffalo. We get 3” that’s almost 20% of our yearly average. Schools are closing this morning all over. 2. It has been said 7 times. I get it. When I was a kid this was nothing. We act more and more like The south as for as how people handle these storms. The city shuts down for crap . I get safety is important, but today the standards are lower. By Tomorrow we'll find out how much snow we really get. Budgetary cuts by MoDot kill their ability to treat so its better to keep people off the road and have their lesser crews (therefore fewer labor hours) have a chance

Any chance the NWS upgrades the WWA to a WWN (Winter Weather Nuisance)? Oh god I can only think of the complaining we'd have if that was a thing

I will never think that an ice storm failing to live up to hype is a bad thing. 2006 was more than enough for me.

Ok ok i may be wrong like always
I've been on this forum since 2006. 99% of the time we are wrong. Its not you, you're just learning trends and also sometimes we're pessimistic as hell only to get what we wanted.

Mixing with sleet now and intensity picking up a bit. Question, experts: If it's sleeting and snowing NE of StL where the Dry Air Monster is, why is it that to the southwest, the dry air is still winning out? This is one of those questions I could never understand...the whole donut hole scenario -- where it's snowing all around me but not on me. Like there's someone w/ a giant hair dryer sitting above South County...
The urban heat island pulls moisture out of the air and other pollutants cause nucleation to slow down

Nothing relevant to report from the NWS Conference call, unfortunately I was only able to call in and was not able to view via webinar and see the latest graphics. Updates should be coming out around 3:30 - 4:00, sounds as if some expansion to advisory products will be occurring, but I cannot accurately report what those will be as I missed viewing the graphics. See how easy MSP's winter graphics are. Has this happened for us in the last, I don't know, 10 years? Check this outLast year around thanksgiving

Should we expect the def band in central Missouri to continue east and strengthen?
I feel like its going to mostly stay on the north side of the meremac and maybe 1-2 fluffy inches
