One thing I've learned during this pandemic is that there are a lot of people who have no problem believing in the science of weather forecasting, but will believe just about any crazy theory on COVID19.

This is my first "vacation" in 4 years, of course the weather will suck. People will really get cabin fever if it's cold and they can't even go outside, lol. The boredom scale is going to go through the roof [br Can definitely feel the difference in mood here today because there isn't an outside activity to look forward to

Well, my son will now be home until Easter. Xavier has closed campus until after easter break. They are switching to remote classes until after easter. This is really getting weird. Is the toilet paper shortage real? I have 4 rolls for my family

Another shot of 'River Effect Snow" between the Mississippi and Illinois rivers??? Are the snow showers enchanced by the high water which is 'somewhat unusual' this time of year? Although, not recently 'unusual'. Is there any write ups for this somewhat common occurrence?? We took the metro over the river today and i was thinking about when it was normal for the river to fall below zero in the winter.

I will admit Im not super proud of it and I always make sure I give the client as much extra as I can for free. I exampy a 95.00 blue spruce our cost is being charged to the cliamt.for 595.00. It is crazy. I never worked for a company that was so high. I could never afford it my self. You really need to take some business classes and learn what it takes to run a successful landscaping business. I'm betting you would have a better understanding of why they charge what they charge. Until then, do your job and don't give freebies you aren't supposed to.

With two days at 60 this weekend, the snow will have to come down at a good rate to overcome the warmer ground relatively speaking temps. Though, I am not saying it won't stick. Right now, most of the snow looks to happen mid to late morning up through the early afternoon on Monday. I agree. I think it is mostly mood snow... with a light coating up to MAYBE 1 inch in some spots. Could it be a little more? I guess... but odds are too low IMO to lean that way. Either way I'm in the deer blind to enjoy the show

Armistice day 1940: 928mb (nws event page) Drove through Brighton this morning to go duck hunting, we have an irap blind up in macoupin county this weekend Do any good? We were one bird shy of a 4 man goose limit last Saturday for the opener and shot 13 ducks Sunday. Hunting a farm pond outside of Shipman. Not much going on this weekend though... Nope. Had a few looks, saw 30 ducks and 8 geese. Geese were on a mission, ducks got flared by the other blind demonstrating how effective the duck call is at conserving duck populations

Successful launch to edge of space today! We had a couple hiccups, one which resulted in our payload tilting and the camera facing up for most of the flight. We did get a cool shot of the ballon burst though! We launched from Wentzville, landed just southwest of Pinkneyville, and reached about 85,000 feet. Most importantly the students had a blast. They really took pride in their jobs and were on the edge of their seats as they watched the progress from “Mission Control”. It was so cool hearing the cheers when I called to report that I had successfully recovered the payload. We will definitely be launching again. My principal was so excited he wants us to do it again in the spring! Is there a kit for this?

I have serious doubts about frost tonight in the metro...because of wind. Is Ferguson metro? I always assumed Metro just meant the City of St. Louis City, county, st Charles, Jefferson, st clair, Madison, Monroe.

I thought it might be interesting to post a view of the urban heat island effect as seen by the ABI radiometer on the GOES-16 satellite. Below is an image from channel 14 at 6:00am which is centered on the infrared part of the spectrum at 11.2 um. That's about the center of the range your hand held IR thermometer is looking at by the way. Anyway, you'll see a deep black shade along I-70 from St. Charles Country over to the Mississippi River and into downtown STL which is traditionally the spot where the UHI is maximized in the metro area. This is where the infrared photon flux as seen by the ABI is the highest. One important caveat in the interpretation of infrared imagery...higher fluxes don't necessarily mean warmer surface temperatures though that is typically the case. The reason is because the flux is measured from space and there are two things that modulate flux intensity. The first is obviously the emission of IR photons from the surface. The second is the water vapor content in the atmosphere. WV partially shadows the surface IR flux. More WV means more surface IR flux shadowing from the perspective of the ABI. Those photons don't just disappear; they get returned back to the surface and that's why they get partially hidden from the satellite. That's what is happening on a broad region scale here. There is less WV to the north and more to the south which explains why the IR flux appears higher to the north and lower to the south even though the surface temperatures were roughly the same. But, in the metro area where WV is locally homogeneous you really are observing higher surface temperatures along I-70 and into downtown STL. Can anyone spot anything else interesting? Bodies of water like Carlyle
