Some pretty decent supercells up north...could see a few hailers or wind producers overnight Saw some cumulus bubbling on my way home from work. Feels warm and humid

How dry was Feb compared to normal? Was the only precip the thunder snow event? Dry. It seems pretty droughty still for it being one of the wettest times of the year typically. Pretty concerned about this growing season unless things change pretty quickly. I focused so much on the snow event, I was surprised when there wasn't any rain on my station. Not good to be this dry.

86 degrees yesterday 25 this am You know you luve in STL when you go to bed and it’s 76 degrees out, and wake up shivering because you forgot to turn the heat on and now it’s freezing. We shut the windows while it was still hot and it had not dropped below 71 in the house this morning without running the furnace

Just based on the outlines of the Outlooks next week, Wednesday over the mid-south will be a big day, seems that area always gets smoked. Tuesday will probably be more conditional, just based on geography.... Of course it will do something becuase its a storm forecast and not snow.

Based on model performance this year, North Dakota better start preparing. Lock in the storms. We don't get missed with these systems.

Decided to try my cheap spotting scope with cell phone mount to look at the moon. It's very shaky, but I'm under a hundred for the scope and tripod from Amazon.

Could this be the last snowfall of the season unless something unexpected happens? Who knows, still almost 2 months of snow season left. Anyone know what happened to the SSW event that was supposed to happen this week?

That would be cool. I bought a spotting scope recently. I have been using it to observe an eagle's nest on the west end, but I'm planning on using it to look at the moon one night soon, and I'll buy a solar filter to use it on the eclipse. I haven't decided on a destination yet, probably going to head more east than south.

The downside of allegiant. When it's good it's awesome. When it's terrible, it's downright terrible Did you measure??? I just didn't feel like measuring but I guestimate a very very healthy 5" like cardsNweather had in Ofallon. I was hoping the hour or so of legit very legit but not quite Jimmy Cantore level TSNOW was enough to challenge Mount Darthsnovius in St. Peters unprecedented streak of winning the golden snow shoe.. I very rarely measure snow. Once the grass is covered, I'm happy. Don't drive the hills on the bluff in this weather though. Horrible.

So much for the N shift...NAM barely gets precip into the Metro now. I'm loosing track of how many times SEMO/SOIL has been jackpotted while we're high and dry up this way. Someday we need to compile the data.

I'm done with winter. The kids are riding bikes in the cul de sac after school, the neighbors are coming down to play. Bring on spring

HRRR is setup and ready go for the eclipse on April 8th. Totality occurs close to 19Z (2pm) so we should get more realistic cloud information including any modulation caused by the eclipse itself by the 0Z (7pm) run on April 6th. gsl.noaa.gov/news-media/news/2023-annular-eclipseFingers crossed. We are planning on driving east 2 hours

My remote showed a high of 72* today. I see that Lambert ONLY got to 70*. Sullivan was at 70* for 7 remote obseravation cycles. Had to hit 71* somewhere between noon 30 and 2:30pm. I would like to think my remote is only 1* off. I sure thought there would be more 'interesting stuff' to track by this point. Today was amazing though. Click on the link below and look at the map to compare your accuracy to your neighbors. We only hit 68.6.

First taste of these temps = first noticeable symptoms of spring fever for me. This is my evening to work and the cameras at home are going crazy because the kids are tearing it up in the cul-de-sac with the neighbors

In case anyone was anxiously awaiting the next cicada swarm then I have good news for you. Brood 19, the largest brood in Missouri, will swarm once again this year. Yay! I've been seeing claims that two broods will overlap this year. Maybe it's just nostalgia, but I remember there being a lot more cicadas when I was younger. I actually believe that the insect population as a whole has seen a reduction over the years. Grasshoppers in particular seem much more absent than I remember in the past. There's a lot less grass now then even 30 years ago as farmers have tiled the fields, mowed waterways, and tilled the fence rows under. It's sad

Good morning all, kinda of the subject of winter weather but I was curious if you all had rain gauges and what they’re reading so far for the month of January. Mine is reading 4.53” so far. I reset it the first day of January and it’s in an open area where there’s no trees or anything for extra run off. Thank you. 4.39 My station is mounted to the roof and sits 6 feet above the peak. Fairly open area, 15 yards to any tree
