Not that I was expecting a ton of snow, but I was thinking I'd see some flakes fly this morning. Looking at the radar is just torture! Not one single flake. Oh well... so the winter goes.

For once I'm rooting for the Euro. Southerners still in play according to it. This one fits the theme of the season - relatively small swath of snow with a local jackpot. Odds of that right now are roughly from Springfield into the central Ozarks. I'm right there with you! Do you think that the "mix" will include sleet? If so, couldn't that help to cool the surfaces so that any snow that falls will maybe stick? I'm grasping at straws here! Lol!

I’ve had a little bit of freezing rain/sleet here in Ironton. It’s enough to put a light coating on my deck.

So is it looking like a no go today for Iron County??? You have a better chance than me, but it’ll be tight. Thanks for the info. Keeping my fingers crossed!

18z NAM is pretty darn aggressive with widespread snow showers Sunday evening that sharp vort "rounding the bend" the northeastern longwave troughing. 18z euro agrees I’m not seeing this. Please explain.

I'm feeling cautiously optimistic about some winter weather in my area early tomorrow morning.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I'm very thankful for Chris and everyone on this weather blog. I've been lurking around here since the beginning. I don't post much but this is definitely one of my hobbies.
The 06zNam definitely gets my attention.... is there much hope in it??

To say the 18z gfs made a shift south with the snow would be an understatement. I guess it would absolutely make sense if my son was born while it was snowing! That would be neat! Hope it happens!

To my surprise some of our roads and bridges have been salted....radio says there’s a chance of light snow or flurries... Is this seriously true?

My temp says 35 right now and we have a mist even though there’s nothing on the radar. My daughter is at clinicals for nursing school until 10 at the hospital in Festus. She doesn’t get done until 10 and then has to drive back to Ironton. Will temps drop by then? Should I be worried about flash freezing? Should be good. Temps will likely stay above freezing until after midnight. However I know how it is out in the hills as it tends to be a hair colder so may still want to be cautious. Thanks for the inputs! I’ll remind her to be extra cautious just in case!

I'm not super good at reading models, and I know that more goes into it, but to my untrained eye it looks as if us southern most counties could see and inch or so of snow overnight tonight.... Or, am I missing something???

According to the radar, the precip is right on my doorstep! Should start seeing something more than a super light mist here in a few...

Anything falling in Ironton? I know at least one person lives there. I just came in about 15-20 min ago and we have a super light mist....freezing on limbs a little but not much yet.

HRRR looking a bit better for us southerners this evening. I'll predict 2.0" IMBY. Also worth noting that we are 4-5 degrees colder than forecast, which will make a difference on the roads. I was thinking the same thing! The 4-5 degree difference in temps is a good thing IMO. What are your thoughts on the start time?

It’s rained a little and sleeted a little here in Ironton. My concrete driveway is slicker than snot! I’m not sure about the roads though.

The latest models are slightly better warmer aloft Friday really limiting snow chances to onset and almost no sleet. However they have surface winds now essentially ESEE instead of SE. The name and gfs both keep the Northern 2/3rd of the metro between 29-30F until 4-5pm Friday before torching us out. The ice threat looks vigorous to me especially along and North of 64/70. What's it showing for the southern section?

That GFS run is pretty rough. Low level cold hangs tough and allows for several hours of icing with temps in the upper 20’s What is the timing of this event?

Without snowcover, i cant imagine below 0 temps and i cant imagine that the cold will last for any period of time before we get back to normal or above. It has been a wild and crazy ride this year. I'd agree, the amount of snow we received late in the fall season is rare. Now in January, it's been warmer. Don't forget about us bottom counties that only received a TRACE of snowfall this past time, whereas most of you received several inches. I NEED snow!

06z euro ensembles were pretty far west. I have a feeling we may be to far east for this one 12z Icon looks pretty reasonable. Not as amplified, keeps the brunt of the deformation zone to the west, but still swipes parts of the viewing area with some ice and snow. Can’t say I recall a deformation zone with ice before though, that would seem unusual Are we talking about it hitting all of the viewing area, or a just a certain portion? I'm very concerned about potential flooding here in the southern county, but should I also be looking for a little ice/snow as well?

I know there’s weather going on and I hope folks don’t mind but need to let it out. We had to put down our wonderful dog of 6 and a half years this afternoon. I knew I would be sad, but wow. We are devastated. He was just unlike any other. I’m just glad we are pregnant with our first (7 months along) because if we didn’t have that it would be even harder. Thanks for everyone’s kind words and private messages the other day when I first posted about it. It just feels like the pain won’t ever end with his loss though I know it will. I’m very sorry to hear this. Prayers for you.
