So..something different this time. I'm a pretty big Star Wars fan, and am pretty damn excited about Episode VII opening next week. A huge thing is that it's bringing back the original 3 characters from the original trilogy. Directed by JJ Abrams and still some mystery surrounding it (What exactly has become of Luke Skywalker?) People have been hyping this movie for a year or more now, and experts expect a HUGE opening weekend. Right now the record holder is Jurassic World from this past June, it made 208.8 million domestic B.O Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. No one anticipated it to make anywhere near that much..most estimates were around 120-140 million. Many generations of fans will be going to see this movie...more so than Jurassic World. Some estimates have it making 300 million. So pick a number..any number. Poll will close Next Thursday at 6pm.

I'll take my son...no doubt. But, one thing I'm annoyed about is that you can't rent any of the Star Wars movies online right now AFAIK. This makes it very inconvenient to introduce my son to them.
$201-250 million

Can't wait for this movie. If a movie is going to break $300m opening weekend it's going to be this one

I believe it won't be as successful immediately because of the timing. It's the busy time of the year. Me like others I'm sure are busy and also don't want to deal with the crowds of opening weekend. I see more of a steady ticket sales instead of a huge opening. I'll probably see it a few days after Christmas.

I'm not sure if I'll see it on opening weekend either. I do think it will break the record...easily in terms of raw totals, but possibly in terms of inflation adjusted totals as well.

It's going to break records for sure. Waaaay to many fans, including myself. I think it will definitely be over $200 million just not sure how far it will go.

Someone shared a picture on FB that showed Star Wars opening on Dec 18th and the Chipmunks Movie opening also on December 18th, and said "Who else is ready for the most brutal slaughter in cinema history?" Lol. If I was head of the studio for the chipmunks movie I would have waited at least a week. Any studio head would be smart to not open any movies the same weekend as Star Wars.

It is up to us to educate the younger generation on the awesomeness that is Star Wars. :)I would be going myself opening weekend but we have a work christmas party and then we leave the next am to drive back home to STL.

The actual number for Episode VII was 247.97 million. Blowing away Jurassic World by almost 40 million. Worldwide it grossed 529 million, beating Jurassic World's 524.9. Can it beat Avatar's all time domestic box office of 760.5 million?
