I don’t think I’ve ever experienced true thundersnow. I’ve experienced thundersleet and thunder freezing rain but never heavy snow with thunder and lightning. Kinda bummed it’s happening a short drive away lol

Deck is covered in sleet and the rails are iced over. I don’t think I saw any snowflakes but some pretty large sleet. It was fun to try to will this thing South, but I really need to stop banking on it. Like next weekend - I really should just not look that far out.
As for thundersnow - I remember it once when I was a young kid. I was shoveling what was already a bunch of snow with my dad when we saw a flash of pink and then a rumble of thunder. My dad looked up to the sky and said, “awww sh*t” and then it started pouring. Very cool.
I’ve seen it a couple other times, my that was the one I remember the most.

I think it's snowing as hard now as it has all afternoon. Bigger flakes, but still not up to hamsters

I’m curious as to what Lambert has gotten as a total thus far.

The first flake that falls around here will be the heaviest it has snowed here all day.

I’m curious as to what Lambert has gotten as a total thus far. I'm in STL and it was mainly sleet with some light to modeeaye snow. I would guess 0.5 or less. We have a nice coating, but the good stuff was a bit north.

The rain on my window screens has frozen. Have heard thunder & it's raining with occasional sleet.

It didn't start until a few minutes after I heard the thunder, but that was one of the most impressive bursts of snow I've seen. My best estimate at the peak is that visibility was around 800 feet, maybe a little more, although I didn't have a great setup to try and measure. That was just east of Orchard Farm a few miles north of St. Charles. As I got closer to town it looked like they missed out on the heaviest band as visibility and road conditions improved.

Had that brief thundersnow a while back but it let up quickly. Does not look like anything is falling. Congrats northerners. This is all about you.

Caught some thunder sleet in Wildwood between 6-7 and then some nice thundersnow just across the Missouri River in the Boone bridge heading north towards home. Heavy sleet and snow with that so I give this Easter a big solid A+. What a wild winter, can’t really complain too much. Enough to keep me happy but always in search of those big time snows

That was only my second thundersnow experience. This time I think the strike was close because the flash was very bright and the thunder was almost instant and VERY loud.

So what's the scoop on the severe storm threat this week? Possible large hail producers tomorrow night (Monday night)... followed by a fast moving QLCS event midday/early afternoon Tuesday.

Updated my seasonal totals and I'm up to a surprising 7.9"... it sure didn't feel like that much. It may be a little more as I was not here to measure the March 11th event (my wife estimated for me) and there were a couple tiny .1 or .2 events that I didn't bother recording.

It Absolutely poured sleet and grauple in West Belleville. Biggest winter ice pellets I've seen. Hurt walking in. Wish we would have had more snow, but still impressive for April.

I couldn't remember who mentioned that... good call! I have to admit... my initial thoughts on this system were that it fade as the models got closer. I mean EVERY other system like this all winter long started out promising in the long range...and then disappeared around the 48 hour mark. But that was winter...we are now in Spring...so things are a little different now.
