And just like that the line has consolidated across the area, right as it moves through Union. With a good amount of lightning and thunder. Had very heavy rain for a couple of minutes.

Here is a stunning stat that I uncovered by accident this evening...and feel free to check me on this...
Since the turn of the century 18 years ago...STL has set only TWO record low temperatures in the months of December, January, February, March, April or May. That's right...only two times in the past 18 years has the overnight low tied or broken a record in the first 5 months of the year...and in NO year have we set a record low during the climatological winter season (December-February).
Those two dates... April 7, 2007...23° May 18, 2002...39°
To me... that is simply stunning!

The last record low I see in the STL climate summary for December was -15f on December 23, 1989. There have been no record lows in December since then according to the monthly summary. The record listed for December 17 is -3 set in 1875. www.weather.gov/lsx/stl_decLikewise, I don't see your record low for May 21st. According to the NWS, the record low for May 21st is 38 set back in 1883. www.weather.gov/lsx/stl_may

In the same time frame (Jan-May)... since 2000...we have set at least 38 record high temperatures. I say at least, because several have been broken multiple times since 2000. Those are crazy numbers.

See if you can guess where the front is Friday afternoon It will be interesting to see how far south cold pooling is able to force the effective boundary. Does it stay close to the synoptic front or does it ooze south with time.

Amazing gradient. I'll be headed up to the WI border next weekend to pick morels and I was concerned about the heat building this weekend...luckily the NW flow and cloud/precip keeps N IL locked in the cool air until next week.

Models aren't too excited about elevated storms along/north of the boundary the next few days... some Friday morning, but surprisingly rather quiet over the weekend.

How did you do around here? I only found 120 which is about 25 percent of my average good years. It was really strange...I have many hotspots on my farm and they produced practically nothing. I've heard similar from other folks in the area. Seems like that mid April cold snap killed the season as they were beginning the fruiting process. Many of the larger morels I found had frost nipped tips.

MCV left over from last nights MCS is drifting over southwest MO. It will be interesting to see how/if that ignites storms later today.

This hot dry wind this early in the year has me nervous. Hopefully the active pattern pans out for early next week. Looks like a good MCS setup next week with a boundary floating around and a warm, moist feed off the gulf. Looks like summer is here to stay with no cool downs in sight for the area. Crazy temp gradient setting up to our north the next few days though
