Nearly continuous very long damage path originating in Nebraska associated with this MCS including several spaced out significant wind events. Numerous reports of large trees down in and around the metro as well. You see where I'm going with this... Pretty impressive considering the marginal setup... The extreme instability seemed like it was able to overcome the weak shear and waning UL forcing

Well... sure glad they dropped the Slight Risk... what a disaster.
Glad I ignored that. Old fashioned forecsting works again.

Dan Gray had a good shot of lightning during his live shot on Olive. Had to pause and regain his composure.
I probably would have needed to, as well

I think the SPC was more forcused on the moderate risk up on the northern plains. But still an established MCS dropping into an area with 7000J of SBCAPE and not even a slight risk? Thatâs alittle ridiculous

In this age of technology, it just goes to show you that the human brain and a good understanding of weather wins out almost everytime. Great work Chris, it does show why youâre one of the best in the business and why this forum can be so valuable as a tool for understanding weather!!!!

I've never seen the nws have to play catch up for an entire day with severe thunderstorm watches before. They keep extending over and over. Now they are into Tennessee and will likely have to issue for Nashville before it's done. Quite a journey this complex has taken. This will be a good one to study and learn from. Hoping someone here has the radar saved since early this morning.

Check out the radar loop from earlier just east of Marion, IL. Looks like a little tornadic cell spun up just before it was eaten by the line. Pretty sure that's where the tornado was with injury reported per KFVS.

I drove out to Fort Riley... so it was bound to happen. We lost some siding. Lots of tree damage in Mascoutah. The baseball field dugouts all were deroofed. I'm about to head back that way with my Army son in tow.

A quicker right turn would have meant a lot more power outages and damage due to it hitting the city more head on. This thing's hay day was over southern Illinois.
