watching live coverage from COS stations, apparently the 96/97mph gust is an all-time record during snowfall/blizzard?... Not sure what the exact context is. Here's a live stream on the web www.krdo.com/live-streamI was just watching the coverage and the female meteorologist just went into a very good explanation of why she shys away from the terms "bombogenesis" and "polar vortex" because as a public figure trying to pass along accurate information these terms don't help in "managing expectations" as she stated. She also explained that the storm did indeed meet the criteria for bombogenesis which means a 24mb or greater pressure drop in 24hrs or less. Good stuff and really impressive system!!

Glen just said 109 mph winds in Texas. Anyone know where that was? This was the first time I heard that report.

Friend of my wife, who is a NWS met in Colorado Springs, verified 97mph winds Not even sure there can be drifting at that speed. The snow just gets pulverized into dust and keeps flying.

"nexus" makes me think of Seinfeld. "I'm at the corner of 1st and 1st. How can a street intersect itself? I must be at the nexus of the universe!"

Wow what a storm! I was out in it all day, is there a way to post videos to the forum? The wind was something else, the whole city of Denver is basically shut down. They had a 100 cars stranded between Elizabeth and Kiowa. They had to deploy the national guard to help rescue those stranded people. Also there was a 60 car pile up on I25 south of Denver on monument hill. Interstate closures west, east, north, and south of the city loop. This storm is history and one I won’t ever forget! So glad I get to experience my first ever blizzard.

The people at the news desk said he was showing what he could there because he couldn't get back to Colorado Springs.

Where does this cyclone rank in strength to others over the years? I know the Superstorm of 93 was 960, but having trouble finding much else on others.

I believe the storm I mentioned earlier got down to 958mb. Also, the Cleveland superbomb got down to 960mb I believe. This storm will definitely go down in history.

The movie isn't that old. ST-VI Undiscovered Country is 1991 28 years old. but the movie Chris was thinking about was Star Trek Generations that was 1994 25 years old.

So Is the wind thursday going to be stronger than the 1st big wind we had a few weeks ago? Only an advisory for the nw half or so of the area.

So Is the wind thursday going to be stronger than the 1st big wind we had a few weeks ago? Only an advisory for the nw half or so of the area. Models aren't overly thrilled...EURO seems to be the most bullish with pretty widespread 50mph gusts. But the mid-level jet is absolutely ripping...700mb is like 80kts...850 is around 50-60 and if clouds stay away we should get deep mixing and tap into some of those higher wind speeds. If we mix to 750mb and tap into 70kt winds 80% of that is 56kts which is 64mph. That would be the extreme case. I'm thinking 50mph seems pretty obtainable. The models showing lower wind speeds bring in the stratus quicker so that could be a limiting factor. S IL into E IL and IN seems like the favored corridor for the strongest gusts but that could expand further towards the river if the storm is slower to lift out and clouds are delayed.
