Hadn’t looked at a weather model since the snow 2 weeks ago figuring nothing interesting was happening.
Just popped in here to see if severe season was picking up, saw all the rain and pulled up the models.
Was shocked at the 12z runs for tomorrow lol. Thought I was looking at archived data.
It is perpetually winter once you are a couple hours north of the metro apparently

The way overdone 18z rgem has 12-15 inches lol. I feel for the NWS because the gradient is insane. Luckily it’s a Saturday so they have a little more wiggle room. I’m going with 7 inches at O’Hare. I think thunder snow is coming.

Got to say 3 to 5 not out of the question next week at all and am thinking that is low if the rain continues into the weekend which i believe to be the case. This is not a good setup at all.

I was shocked when I saw that NE IL was under a WSW for 4-8" of snow on 4/27! That's just stupid lol. Seems here it is either pouring or all windy as hell. I'm so sick of the rain and wind. Today would have been beautiful if it hadn't been for the damn wind. I can't get much outdoors work finished next week either unless we get some lulls in the rain. I'm hoping the rain next week comes in waves and isn't all day rains.

It'll be a cement snow and with trees leafing out and 35-40 mph winds, I expect alot of tree damage.

Cousin in WI only speaks in monotone about the weather. If winterish weather continues much longer, there’s going to be a mutiny across the state.
Me, I’m just going to go for it with planting unless it’s a mud farm can’t wait much longer.

Well... made it to Chicago... Elk Grove actually. We're here for the kids bowling tournament. Elk grove is north of o'hare where they're saying could see 6 inches of snow. Yay.

Went to bed here at the hotel in Elk Grove under a Winter Storm Watch, calling for 3 to 6 inches. Woke up under a warning for up to 8 inches, blowing snow and 1 to 2 inch per hour rates. Yuck.

Hey look more rain on the doorstep.
I've noticed a trend this year of the models underestimating the amount of moisture in the medium range. Then as we get closer it turns out to be more. This pattern is a stubborn one.

This pattern is a stubborn one. How has your mushroom season been overall? Between the past couple days I've picked 6 pounds but it's been fairly spotty and you really have to hunt hard to pick poundage. Most trees are only giving up a few including prime dead elms so that tells me it's not a great season. But it's noticeably better than the last several so I can't complain.

I checked the forecast for Galena where we mushroom hunt later in May and about fell out of my chair when I saw the WSW with 6-8" forecast. Winter just won't let go!
