Backpressure into tributaries, reservoirs and natural wetlands allows for progressively lower crests as you go downstream as long as there isn't added input into the stream along the way. This stretch of dry weather is very much needed to relieve pressure from the watershed...but we're far from being out of the woods. There's still all that snow in the Dakotas and Minnesota waiting to melt Yeah, DM posted something earlier that showed 6-10" of water equivalent snowcover sitting on the Upper Midwest and N plains...not good. Hopefully that will melt off slowly and not all at once during a firehose rainfall event or blowtorch warm spell. Unfortunately, with it being an El Nino year the odds of a firehose event are greatly elevated.

Glad I could stimulate a little discussion about NE and how it will affect downstream. My friend's farm isn't flooded. They're in Columbus NE but they can't go anywhere.

I haven't seen anything good come out of Nebraska today. Ranchers dealing with massive loss in the West, major flood in the east. Very sad.

Both are reporting 3-4 feet of snow on the ground. And that was before Wednesday's storm. That's not snow banks. - that's in yards and farm fields. And there are larger snow banks everywhere

Man, 8 months until we start over again.
If we're lucky.
Probably 9.

Correct me if I'm wrong but seems like it's been a long time since that depth snowpack has been present in the US at this point in the year. Good to see.

I’ve noticed while on 21 today they have closed outer roads along Meramec at 141/21. How high impact will Meramec be?

I’ve noticed while on 21 today they have closed outer roads along Meramec at 141/21. How high impact will Meramec be? As of the flood statement from 8 pm Friday night it's supposed to be minor at Arnold. Flood stage is 24' and the forecast is for 32.4' on Thursday. And someone asked about the Cuivre River. At Old Monroe flood is 24' and it's supposed to hit 26.9' on Thursday; also minor. Both of those are backwater from the Mississippi. But that doesn't include the snowmelt up north that still has to happen.

There is still a lot of snow waiting to melt in the Missouri and Mississippi watersheds.

Went onto Offutt to get my husband's bag from his work. If he didn't forget his access badge at home, he would've had to walk there, get the bag, and leave. The south end is being evacuated, the planes and vehicles are moved to higher ground, and there are a lot of people sandbagging.

Noticed my front yard is turning green....so I bought some seed and some topsoil to start on bare spots...but with it being middle of March, I decided not to throw any down just yet....Maybe I'll wait a few days, to the late part of next week. Still too early?

We are at Offutt sandbagging. Sirens are going off, the planes are taking off, and water is still rising.

But that doesn't seem to be an option, and with the recent heavy rains, I noticed bare spots in the front yard, and a lot of ponding. I'm going ahead with it.

Here's the river gauge on the Niobrara River downstream of the Spencer Dam. Reports are that the dam failed at about 5:30am Thursday morning.

Not sure when it's going to stop. I know it's from the Missouri and Platte. We do have rain forecast for this week. Right now only mission essential is supposed to report on base. This morning the Stratcom gate road was flooded so there really is only 1 gate open now.
