The problem when the general public looks at model performance... most are looking at the absolute SENSIBLE weather in their backyard...the micro-scale. The reality is that you have to look big picture patterns...are the models getting the big picture more right than wrong? That is the kind of verification you look for in the mdeium and long range. The fact is that short range forecasts have improved to the point that we are now using the same criteria to judge mid/long range forecasts that was once only applied to shorter ranges. Looking back at both of our winter weather events...Im pretty sure there were few if any hints of possible activity until we got inside 6 or 7 days...and this last one wasnt "locked in" as an event until maybe 3 days out. That's because so many these things are deiven by shortwaves...not long waves. You have to get the big pattern right before you can have any hope of tracking the shoetwaves moving through that pattern. Waiting in tye LOOOONG line at the aquarium... very excited to see this place! Silly question for you, fearless leader. When you are in a public place with a crowd of people standing in line like that as people recognize you do they ask you about when we're going to get snow, or is it going to get cold or that sort of thing? Or do they say something like "Hey Chris! We enjoy watching you!" Or do they pretty much leave you alone to be with your family. Lol... it runs the full spectrum. Some people come up and say hello. Sometimes people say nothing TO me, but my wife will notice that I"ve been noticed. People will wisper and point and say... "isnt that the weather guy?" I just keep going as if I didnt hear or see it...but my wife will lean in with a "youve been noticed" lol. Most folks are respectful... some make nice comments...some are annoying and make what they think are funny comments like "must be great to be wrong half the time, etc..." But I ways take time to say hello, wish a good day, etc. And thank them for watching...even the ones who get my name wrong...which happens sometimes. Some people are really sweet and appologize for saying hello. I always say that Im glad to be recognized because it meams you are watching.

My take on the aquarium....WAIT... dont go until the holiday crowds thin out. I will enjoy it more when I dont feel like I am being rushed through. And DO NOT expect the Charleston or Shed...it is not even in the same league as those. That said, it has potential to be a nice attraction. However...they will HAVE to cut the price or people will stop coming. I just dont think it was worth 25 bucks a person. That alone will keep many people from coming a second time.

Fox 2 was saying “get your tickets early.“ But they were saying it right after Thanksgiving so I don't think a lot of people had their plans for this past week firmeed up at that point. My wife and her cousin from out of town were planning on going last Monday. But the only tickets left when they were ready to buy them were at like 7 pm and they didn't want to go that late. And Snowman is correct - I've heard no feedback about the aquarium one way or another. Strange since it's been open for a week. Are people required to sign non-disclosure agreements or something? I don’t really watch the news...weather only, so didn’t know about the warning. As for the actual aquarium- I’ve heard it’s cool. It’s NOT Shedd. So my expectations are properly set. A lot of my friends have gone with their families, and I’m not hearing any complaints. I’m thankful they finally did something with Union Station. Agree completely it's great they're doing something with Union Station. The real test will be how well it endures a year or two from now. Still don't understand why the last revamping of it wasn't sustainable. It was great initially but something went wrong somewhere. Don't know whether they raised the lease prices too high that the stores couldn't make it or it was too expensive to maintain when the tax credits ran out of whether it was just the novelty wore off or what.

And I can guess that every person who uses the “it must be great to be wrong half the time “ line each think they are so clever as to be the first to say it. I say that because I'm tall and every person who has asked “how's the weather up there?“ or “do you play basketball?“ think they are the first to come up with those.

Most models show very little precipitation in the metro with the next storm. Probably more of a light drizzle at times tomorrow.

"Day After Tomorrow" being shown on the 0Z CFS 768 hour model towards the end of January into the start of February. February as always been forcasted to be the coldest, wintry month of the season, but the CFS looks to be taking it to the 11th level at least this particular run.

Might not even get cold next week. NWS has temps in upper 40s to 50. Then models show another heat wave building by midmonth.

I kind of liked Union Station when it was used as a venue for my daughter's proms lol. She was on court her junior year so the parents got to go down there and take pics. I heard an argument supporting the high price of the aquarium...that the other referenced aquariums were higher in price. Well i was skeptical and i have heard that others were disappointed bc they expected more...plus, addl costs for attractions inside. Perhaps the soccer field will help sustain it? I hope that it is successful. Now for wx, i see nothing interesting. Dm has been talking about a major pattern change that will last 2+ weeks. We shall see. I see for now, two separate streams of energy with timing off and no phasing.

What overall is it depicting? Actually nvrmnd....theres really nothing that model tells. There is no discernible pattern that i can determine from run to run on that model.

I wonder how it compares with the one at Bass Pro Shop in Springfield? I've been through that one, and it's nice, but pricey too. Aquariums must be the hot ticket item lately because they are putting one in down in Branson too.
