Well... that was a surprise inch of snow! I wish the snow the other day had been this fluffy. We would have had a lot more than 6 inches.

Has anyone taken a peek at ECMWF and the GFS? They appear to show another potential snow next week.

Tomorrow will be last day we stay below freezing on this stretch.
Let’s recap! let me know what I’m missing)
15 straight days staying below 32.
6 days of measurable snow.
3 nights going below zero
12 straight days staying below 20
5 straight days staying below 10
9 days of snow falling
Unreal!

SUNSHINE!!! Boy, the snow really glistens in the sun. Wife said it looks like someone sprinkled glitter on top of the snow.

The most impressive has been the staying power and depth of the cold. For me, not so much the snow. Getting a foot an inch at a time is a pretty slow way to do it. Winter didnt really get impressive until the first of February. I will say kudos to those who said our winter would be back loaded. It appears that is how it will pan out. I would be impressed with this winter if we manage to pull off one of those big, late winter/early spring snows. I just would love to see one of those late '70, early '80's winters again. Honestly, Id like to see how people today would handle it!

Hope the sun can stay out awhile today. Get the driveway ice melted and dried. Hand shoveled the whole thing last night before bed and of course we get surprise snow over night lol.

Jackpot!!!!!! I went to bed early and didn't know or see anything that fell. I looked out kitchen window as I was getting coffee and my freshly shoveled deck was covered again. WTH I says. Seems a bit much to have blown off the roof. Looked out front and everything was covered again. Looked at a 8 hr radar loop (I rarely go to bed that early) and had to go outside to measure. Several spotss were .75 and several were 1". So semi-official .875" of new snow. Nice, and since it worked so well last time I asked......When is the next one

I mean look what happened when we had hard core winter for a few weeks. And please don't make this political but most of the concern over the last 30+ years has been with global warming...imagine (and I have no reason to believe this is happening) if it were to actually go the other way for an extended period. With today's energy and food demands that would be a much, much more significant problem for humanity.

I had 8" of snow across the length of back deck yesterday when I shoveled it off. There was a frozen layer of snizzle on the deck surface itself. A leaf blower does work well with smaller >.5" amounts. The trick is to start in the middle of driveway and blow opposite ways...if, if there is no wind. If wind is involved then it has to be with it. I know, no brainer.

With today's energy and food demands that would be a much, much more significant problem for humanity. Let me also add to that the population increase. I can only assume these figures are correct. Link at the bottom. Growth from 2000-2019. Dallas +12.8%, Austin +45.6%, Houston +17.3%, San Antonio +32.9%, Fort Worth +66.5%. I believe this came close to 1989 cold levels (we remember that) and 1899 levels. I believe Feb. 2021 still at #3 from what I have read. I am not good with numbers but I wonder what the % of outages per population was in 1989. Do we need more 'access' to energy, or just more energy. These 'freak' events are going to occur again and again. I highlighted 'freak' because I don't 'feel' it is, but what I 'feel' doesn't necessarily equate to accuracy. Link

So Little Rock had 7.7" of snow on Monday. Then 11.8" yesterday. Yet st louis hasn't had a 6" snow in February in 28 years. Amazing. And sad. Edited to add yesterday's snow fell with .66 liquid. So ratios were a lot better than we had, ridiculous. Lol

What an absolute debacle going on in Texas right now. For those that don't know there are 3 electric grids in the US. They are the western interconnect, the eastern interconnect, and the isolated Texas interconnect. I just checked and power prices are still upwards of $8000/MwH today for nearly the entire state of Texas. To put that into perspective the far eastern row of counties which is actually on the eastern interconnect grid prices are $300/MwH and in St. Louis it is going for $125/MwH. Even $125/MwH is unusually high. At $8000/MwH that is $8 per KwH or about 100x the price we pay for electricity from Ameren in the winter here in St. Louis. And we're now being told that the Texas interconnect was a mere minutes from a catastrophic collapse that would have taken months to recover from.

regardless of which way we are going wrt climate change, i think we need to investigate vulnerabilities in our infrastructure and see how to address them. the important thing is that there seems to be an uptick in weather extremes. we cant just sit idle and be satisfied with status quo. and fwiw, i think there is a 50% chance that we will see at least one more accumulating snow this season.
