Yep. Back to normal. Iowa gets snow while it rains here. Once the snow melts and the ground thaws it is going to be so gross outside. Muddy as hell.

Ok, Arkansas needs to change their motto from "The Natural State" to "The New Snowbelt State".

US National Weather Service Kansas City Facebook page posted graphics of an ice blockage on the MO river near Jeff City. Sorry I can’t figure out how to link it. An interesting MoDOT live camera view of the Emerson bridge from Cape Girardeau to IL. It looks like half the river is frozen and almost completely covered with flowing ice. Maybe someone can link for me if others want to see? Could be some good pics for Chris. Did anyone happen to see the video out of New Haven of the deer that was stuck out on the ice? People were pointing out how tragic it was, and trying to encourage someone to go out and rescue it! Kind of sad, yes, but it wasn't the first deer to ever do it, and it wont be the last. It's all part of the natural world, and nature can be a cruel thing.

I wouldn't mind a shot of rain to rinse off the grime and salt from the roads...

Euro is pretty interesting looking in the 7-10 day timeframe
Not a ton of cold but enough floating around and a couple southern stream storms trying to spin up

it seems like ive seen late winter and early spring pattern the past couple years with a lot of cold air lurking to our north and a lot of southern stream energy. last year it did not produce. perhaps this year it will. the best wr can say, is that it supports the potential for a late winter concrete fest, but it doesnt always deliver. i wld say theres a 50% chance overall that someone, somewhere close by, cld get another warning level snow. on the contrary, often times, extreme cold can be followed up by extreme warm up too. our conus pattern could go either way and we may not know beyond a couple days in advance. this is the time of year that med range models are more for my entertainment. do we know what the epo and nao are progged?

Euro is pretty interesting looking in the 7-10 day timeframe Not a ton of cold but enough floating around and a couple southern stream storms trying to spin up NW flow seems pretty stubborn overall, although there looks to be periods of downslope where the source region gets temporarily washed out. It's a decent looking late winter pattern with an active southern stream...might play out nicely if we get a good phase. The NAO looks neutral to slightly negative for the remainder of the month...the EPO looks to trend downward. So that's encouraging.

gosselin mentioned the need to monitor for a wet snow end of next week, acknowledging that model guidance sometimes weakens ejecting lows too fast.

Hoping all is ok and somebody didn’t jump over the bridge into the ice at the Bourbeuse River bridge at union exit. There’s lots of emergency vehicles and first responders looking over the bridge in the river and scaling down the embankment. Looks like some pretty breaking news to me.

I have to agree. There has literally been two weeks of real winter. Granted, it’s been relatively hard core, but it’s not like we’ve had a 12” snowpack for a month with mid 20s highs and near zero lows.

00z EPS has the "figure 8" look on the surface charts later next week with a ridge in the SE and NW and an inverted trof across the central states. That's a classic recipe for overrunning and a potential ice storm. Something to keep an eye on in the coming days.
