The lightning was impressive. Will the storms out wast of town now be a factor later?

Wow that was interesting. We were sitting on the patio at Sybergs, in Ofallon Illinois when the warnings came out. When we first got there, I Looked at the radar and it didn’t appear that is was going to be that bad, so we decided to eat outside under the covered patio, boy was I wrong, and they did they intensify fast. But we didn’t miss a beat, we kept on eating as the sirens were sounding. Which for some reason didn’t go off until 3-4 minutes after my phone went off for the tornado warning.

BTW, The cloud to cloud was amazing on our trek back to Mascoutah. And Weaxwatcher, it looked like rotation went over Mascoutah, or pretty darn close.

It did... therebare some good pics in the community FB pages, from the high school looking south over the lake, of a lowering. I got some good video of the approaching structure. The lightning was intense as it strengthened while heading this way.

If you go back several posts you will see I posted a pic of structure and another radar snapshot. I can PM you to get you the video.

one last gasp of winter on the models, and it's been mentioned in here as well...mid to late week, could see some outlying areas dip below freezing, and it will be well down into the 30s for overnight lows throughout the area, before what looks to be a stormy pattern developing in the extra long range.

Nothing too crazy, but it looks like some post frontal showers tomorrow around rush hour. I wonder if it will start raining at 4pm or 7pm?

Looks like we are going to get a freeze Wed. night. Hopefully models are overdoing the cold and it won't be too impactful at 28-29 degrees.

Looks like we are going to get a freeze Wed. night. Hopefully models are overdoing the cold and it won't be too impactful at 28-29 degrees. So if plants are budding, and growth starts...thoughts on them being damaged? I'm mostly concerned with my flowering dogwood and my burning bushes where the buds have begun opening, but the growth hasn't begun yet. I think my Japaense Maple is going to be ok...I hope.

Cluster Analysis continues to show little spread among the different ensembles during this part of the period, giving me high confidence in temperatures bottoming out in the mid to upper-20s for most locations across the CWA this night. Confidence is increasing that similar temperatures may be experienced Thursday night into Friday morning. Warmer air advecting into the CWA late Thursday night and Friday morning via the return of southerly flow has been slowing in recent model initializations. A majority of ensemble guidance shows this cooler solution, building confidence that the CWA will see another night of widespread sub-freezing temperatures.

Dogwoods are pretty hearty but will probably be stunted a bit and may not flower as much. Burning bush no concern at all. Japanese Maple is the most sensitive of all of these.
