Had sleet, then sleet mixed with snow... now we've transitioned to a light freezing rain. What the heck!? Where's my evaporative cooling through the column? 32F dropped a degree at the surface but now I have liquid falling

Watching the 925mb temps will likely be the key to when you guys changeover to hopefully all snow.

It's still early. But I am tempted to post a YouTube video of “Singing in the rain.“

I already hate that "rainy deformation" is in our lexicon. We better not add "rainy clipper". Just sayin...

Not gonna lie all the short range models are scaring me ….. they all have 2plus inch snow hitting a wall just past the river on the Illinois side …… very depressing

Still all rain for me. Temp is now 34°. Started the night with a Bell's Hop Slam, but went back to low carb gin and tonics.

It has been raining pretty good here for the better part of four hours. This would have been a pretty cool event had there actually been a "quick" changeover. I don't see how we have a chance at much as slow as this is progressing. Losing lots of qpf to rain.

UPDATE... Issued at 1016 PM CST Fri Jan 14 2022
The current forecast largely appears to be on track. As expected, mid-level frontogenesis along with increasing ascent from isentropic lift and large-scale height falls ahead of a closed low moving southward from the Central to Southern Plains has led to an increasingly broad band of precip generally positioned along the Mississippi River. So far this evening, vertical thermal profiles beneath this band have been supportive of accumulating snow across far northeastern MO and west-central IL. Elsewhere along this band, snow has been increasingly common to mix with the rain as cooling from ascent and melting snowflakes occurs. This trend should continue as precip rates become more intense and weak low-level CAA occurs. Snowfall rates could be locally moderate to heavy at times. Precip will become most widespread overnight as ascent becomes more broad, with locations initially seeing rain, eventually transitioning to snow.

The short range models have cut the QPF way back.
Now cutting it back everywhere.
On top of that.
The RAP and HRRR. Have like 50% of what is to come QPF wise falling as rain for STL.
The HRRR gives Lambert .43" QPF.
It has .22" of that the next 3 hours
Mostly rain

Just took the dogs out and guess what I heard??? The screams of millions of snowflakes as they died dropping from the clouds! I have a feeling the ground will be a wet, sloppy, muddy mess tomorrow.

This is yet another example of a learning experience for us to realize when temperature borderline.
Assuming they'll just change over faster than the model say or whatever is always seem to turn out AS COMPLETE BULL****.
HOW IN THE F*** IS IT STILL RAINING WHEN THE SO CALLED WARM LAYER IS UNDER 1C???
