Still 38* here and the Td has risen to 34...not looking too good. Can't wait to spend a week forecasting the next disappointment. Forecasting winter weather is like pulling teeth.
Give me a good severe weather setup over winter any day
It is when you're in an epic snow hole.

And yes I’m sure there may be 2-3” on the grass by morning but definitely not what most models had or forecasts that were out.

Most of us will not have 2-3" by morning.
There is just no way. Not without having heqvy snow for a few hours straight at the very least
Moderate wet snow like this can get the ground white. But accumulating multiple inches isn't happening even with moderate snow all night.
Not without true heavy snow

With that being said it's pouring heavy snow now.
Everything turned white quickly.

Remember when we actually had to have snow on the ground to cancel school? I’d much rather get a call at 5:30am vs. calling off early to only wake up to wet roads.

Still all rain here. I've seen enough of this for tonight... If you want to take your mind off this system, next weeks disappointment is already taking shape. Euro and the EPS are advertising an overrunning ice storm around here

What a **** show. Still raining in Ballwin. For real??? That's crazy. The grass is white. Maybe a half inch of concrete. Huge bust with the WAA part of this storm.

Looks like close to 2 inches in Bonne Terre. Snow still falling. My air temp is 36° though, so lots of dripping from the roof too.

Good morning to anyone who is still up. I am just getting up and ready to go into work. From what I can piece together.... it sounds like the southern areas (Salem MO to somewhere northeast of Perryville MO) have roughly 2-4 so far... and the transition to mostly snow is underway in the heart of the metro.
There is no question the cooling process has not been as efficient as was expected... particularly over the urban heat island that is St. Louis. As I write... I am finally kicking over to snow in Chesterfield but only have a very minor build up of slush on the deck.
If you think this is a poop show... you are correct. But does this suprise anyone? It shouldn't... because we all saw the forecast struggle unfold as the models and rules of thumb battled over position and amounts. The struggle was real and still is. But it is part of what keeps us coming back... to try and unwind the mystery of mother nature who gives us so many clues... only to leave key parts of the story out.
So... where do we go from here... We still have the deformation zone/wrap around portion of the storm and that still looks healthy. I'd say areas southeast of metro STL will verify 4 to 8 pretty easily as the deformation roles over. Closer to I-70 and metro STL... The accumulations SHOULD start to pick up considerably lasting through sunrise. I still think we have several inches of snow to come...but most likely less than originally forecast because of the slower cooling process in the lowest 500 feet in the heat island. Let's call it a low confidence 2 to 5 for metro STL and 1 to 2 up north. I don't have time to draw you a map... or I would.
As for the morning rush, roads will still become slushy in spots as the snow picks up... but as I have said all along... rapid improvement is likely. The road conditions are not likely to be as bad as even a 2 to 5 snowfall might suggest. That doesn't mean they wont be slick... so please drive with care!

Woke up this morning to stare at wet roads, very light snow falling and just a touch of snow on the grassy surfaces. Guess I will go back to sleep, what a bummer. Back to sleep I go.

It's stopped snowing. Well maybe super light flurries and drizzle.
I'd say about 1" so far on the grass.
Not even sticking to the mud.
My temp right now is 35.8F.
That's ridiculous. It hasn't gone below 34F here
