Nearly all snow briefly in st.peters as close to a blizzard if only it was a couple degrees cooler, no sticking but looks like we briefly overwhelmed the warm layer which is impressive in this set up. Just shows you the dynamical cooling power in mid afternoon in march

All we got in Jeffco so far was liquid snow! Only place it was solid was as it fell through the clouds. Oh well... maybe someday.

Heavy, very heavy snow. It might end up being the highest total of the season.

Large sloppy hamster flakes flying now in Edwardsville. Curious to see if it stays that way with this last part of the deformation band moving in.

I might double my seasonal total out of this thing if it stays snow as the intensity pulls away. I'm currently under one of those awesome subsidence bands and got a rock *shrug* On a positive note, the inch and a half of rain filled up the pond that's been very low for 6+ months now.

Welp, back to light rain after 10 minutes of snow missiles. Temp dropped from 40 to 37 which triggered the changeover, so we've been sitting roughly 3-5F too warm for a massive snowstorm.
Fingers crossed for next week, at least we'll have a better shot at nearby/antecedent cold air.

Some prolific lightning going on in the deformation zone in central IL right now.
This was definitely one of the more powerful systems we've seen track through here in quite some time.

I don’t think the snow band could get any closer to me without it actually snowing at my house.
This sucks

I'm wondering how my piezo meter rain gauge performed on this one. It's showing 3.26 in for this event in High Ridge. I was in or driving back from Jefferson City all day so I don't have much perspective other than it rained a lot

Something significant is brewing next week I'd say...it looks like a prolonged overrunning event followed by the main show ejecting out towards the weekend...if you believe the models. The GEFS mean looks quite wintry with the -5* h85 isotherm setting up along I-70 with gobs of energy traversing the S/Central Plains. I suspect operational runs are way too amped with that crazy looking bowling ball cut-off. But some crazy stuff can happen with the magnitude of the blocking that is developing with the strong west-based -NAO and NE Pacific block. There's a lot of cold drainage into the lower 48 after D4/5...impressive for mid-March!
