Looks like there's a better chance of more widespread showers and storms with the backdoor front Mon/Tues and then we may see that ridge runner pattern that I mentioned a few days ago develop later in the week as some energy off the Pacific coast works inland.

St. Libory was the lucky winner this morning. Puddles everywhere. Fields were....moist.

I guess it's a big "Hallelujah" for prevailing westerly winds. I seen this yesterday and figured, like Winter Storm Warnings, there is a normal 'lag time' with all the NWS Offices 'pulling their respective triggers'. I look at the weather forecast this morning and see just about all of IL under a Air Quality Alert and we still have only our original 4 counties and STL City. Then I opened up the U.S. map and seen all of IN. also is under an AQA. Except the 3 counties around Purdue U. WTH is that. Pretty much the same level of dirty air. It sure looks 'ominus'. Maybe Purdue has developed a 'weather maker' machine.

Wow! A ton of pop up storms to the west of the city. But the DAM isn't letting them fire here. Reminds me of snow in the winter heading towards the city only to meet a similar fate.

Another storm popped just to my west again an hour or ago. To add insult to injury I could hear thunder from it.

The talk of brisket got me. I cooked one today. 6.5 lbs. I trimmed the excess fat off. I then liberally coated it with pepper and kosher salt. I put it in the smoker at 230 F and smoked it for 4 hours. I left it in the smoker without smoke for another 5 hours never wrapping it. It had formed a pretty good bark already. I then sprinkled a little brown sugar, light coating of paprika, and another modest round of salt again and then finished it off in the oven for another 3 hours increasing the temperature up to 290 F at the end so that it finished in time. All together it was 12 hours cooking time ending at 193-195F. The stall didn't break until 9.5 hours into the process. It barked up even more in the oven. Honestly I think most of the good bark formed up while in the oven.
I give myself a solid B. The end pieces were falling apart but the center pieces were still a bit fibrous, but still good. My son said the burnt ends were the best he's ever had and that's comparing it to the likes of Pappy's, Dalie's, Adam's, etc.
Things I'll do next time. 1) Get the center to at least 195 F and 2) Remove more of the fat on the fatty side. I don't think the fat adds much flavor and it prevents the bark from forming directly on the meat.

83.2 degrees. Watering, weeding and pruning are done. Grass is almost done. Spouse is finishing up. I am not a heat and humidity fan. Enjoy your weekend.

I don't know..this summer is weird. Probably pretty hot at times with lower humidity at those times. But I would think a fair number of fronts, with some cooler temps, but not as cool as it would be with the dry ground. My guess would be likely pretty dry. I'm thinking by the end of summer we'll be in some pretty severe-extreme drought for much or all the area. OR, maybe i've had too many drinks.

Both the RAP and NASA's GEOS-FD model are suggesting that a denser plume of wildfire smoke aerosols may encroach into the area this week. This time from eastern Canada. I do think these wildfire smoke forecasts have limited skill so we'll see how this plays out.

Showers have popped up between Warrenton and Washington. But, again, moving west away from the city.

The rain lasted 10 minutes but dropped the temperature 10 degrees. Probably increased the dewpoint 30 degrees though so it's a wash.
Started raining again while I was writing this.
