First day of school for lots of teachers and students. I hope they all have A/C’s by now. We sure didn’t in the 70’s. Not sure if we ever got the day off for being too hot either. Can’t remember.

90 and cloudy! Not a lick of sunshine yet. That shows just how hot the overall environment is right now.
When the clouds clear temps will fly.

At least we could open the windows and let some stagnant air in...and out...sort of.

I know for certain we never did. I had no a/c in classrooms until college. We had big fans and wide open windows which let in wasps which created other problems. Heck, even our water fountains only delivered tap water; not cooled. And there was no bringing drinks into the classrooms.
However we never start school until the day after Labor Day. But we did keep going through the first week of June

I've never seen it this hazy before. Can anyone recall a heat index prediction of 119 before? I looked out and thought we were dealing with Canadian wildfire smoke again? Are we? My friend in Ashland Mo says it looks nothing like that there.

Washington mo 88 dp 86, heat index 116. Never seen temps like that with such dangerous heat indexes. I wonder what the record dew point is for kstl for the Month of August if it was not mentioned already

I’d say this is the highest dew point I can remember in my life. Scary stuff.
Is the haze just due to the high moisture content of the air?
I’ve not felt it that miserable first thing in the morning before in the countryside. Crazy.

I’ve not felt it that miserable first thing in the morning before in the countryside. Crazy. I think it is partially due to the fires in IL yesterday. I agree this seems like the most humid its ever been. It stinks that we have no dewpoint records to verify.

In far northwest MO my Weatherbug app says the HI is 131. NWS says HI is 121. It's almost all farmland up there. Awful either way. I used to live up there. I still stalk their weather.

Models showing low clouds and haze again for most of the area. Wednesday might be similar as well though for so for southern and eastern areas. Still 80*F dewpoints around won't help much. Highs 85-90*F and Dewpoints around 78-82*F yields some very muggy/oppressive air.

9:35 am this morning, there was so much condensation on the window of my front door that I couldn’t see through it. RH at that moment was 90% on the Davis.
Whatever the word is that’s worse than gross, this weather is it. Gimme a thunderstorm, or ten…

This is interesting. I didn't see the 7/13/1995 in my data set when I sorted on HI. So I will double check that. But I saw a 119F on 7/1/1945 which was missing from the above list. Also I'm pretty sure 5-minute obs showed a couple 119s yesterday at KSTL.

I wonder what the record dew point is for kstl for the Month of August if it was not mentioned already I'll see if I can find the August Dp record. These dewpoints are definitely top tier for any time of year. It was so muggy this morning I passed through areas of fog crossing the MO river this morning with T/Dp of 83/81 and HI of 97.

Considering the warm mid level temps and the fact we’re under a crushing 600+ dm ridge promoting sinking motion in the atmosphere, virtually no chance
