I heard on the radio that one person won the 1.2 billion in oregon. Well since my brother lives in Oregon I had to rib him I go, "man I haven't heard from you for quite a while, you didn't win that Lottery did you?" I still haven't heard from him so maybe he did.🤔🤔😁 Getting darker...that's Hilarious maybe he did win. I lived in Oregon for 13 yrs never a winner then..heck my sister still lives there I have not heard from her in a few days.. maybe she is the lucky one!! Hmmmmmmm, maybe.🤔🤔🤔 If my brother was the winner, I 'COULD' give you half of what he gave me, or, if your sister won then vicey, versey. Hope your sister is generous.🤪🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

That was everything I hoped it would be and then some. Did others see the pink solar flare at the bottom? Wow! I feel like the aura was also more impressive than 2017 too. I saw the pink flare too. I was in the totality for a much shorter time in 2017. This was a spectacular event. I am already looking forward to 2045!

It was far more impressive than 2017 IMO. It seems like it was darker, temp change, everything more exaggerated. Hoping the traffic lets up so I can back up to Bloomsdale soon.

The temp change was much more noticeable this time than in 2017
I think the air being dry allowed temps to drop quickly

Spectacular! The corona with the bonus solar flare was something I'll never forget.
There were several hundred visitors gathered at the Moonshine store. Glad I went East and avoided the traffic on the N/S bound highways.

Here is the weather station data from my house in Belleville. Temperature went from 74.8 to 69.3.

I agree that it was much better all around. The cool air was awesome, and the corona I believe was much more impressive than 2017 for whatever reason.

Pics from Pyramid State Park. Unforgettable experience. Weather was perfect, traffic was manageable, and the park was beautiful.

I’m happy for everyone who got to see the eclipse at 100% today. While Moberly was only 93% it was still cool to look at through eclipse glasses and I thought the drop in temperature was a pretty cool aspect of it as well. Looks like I will need to hit up my Canadian relatives in 20 years for the next one.

Just got back. Otherworldy. One of the coolest things ive ever seen. The way the light ripples when totality was almost there, huge flash of light when totality started and stopped, the corona, bugs going silent, falling to the ground and crickets chirping, the incredible 360 sunset, something I will not soon forget. My one year old daughter was even staring and ponting at it, yelling sun! That 4 mins and 5 seconds will be forever burned into my brain. I was soooo stressed about the weather and it ended up being absolutely perfect. So who’s going to Egypt in 2027?

Yeah that was incredible! Just some very light cirrus which made absolutely no difference. Perfect viewing. We viewed from a relative's house northeast of Poplar Bluff very close to the center of totality, 4:10 at our location. And yes we could see the flare at the bottom of the eclipse easily.
The drive home was not so spectacular. Typically a 1.75 hour drive was 4.5 hours.

Saw 3 minutes 16 seconds of totality from Charleville winery southwest of Ste Gen. Awesome experience! We even brought a white board and saw shadow bands before and after totality. The shadows were propagating to the northwest, perpendicular to the shadow motion.
It was notably darker than 2017 in Casper WY, even though we were 20 km closer to the edge.
Edit for clarity: shadow bands were moving perpendicular and to the left to the umbra/moon shadow motion, not to themselves lol

Cirrus was lighter than I expected. I'm going back through satellite imagery and I see the thicker stuff was confined to western MO and AR. Some of the modeling in the days leading up showed it extending into IL so obviously I was pleased with that. This was very much a learning opportunity for me in regards to high cloud forecasting. Anyway, like jmg378s said viewing conditions were spectacular where we were but Hwy 21 did me wrong going home though. And Google Maps was grossly underestimating the delays.

I was in Red Bud which was in the totality for 1 min though there was a lot of light bleed coming in from outside the totality zone which was only a few miles NW of me. The temp drop was impressive. I recorded a 8F drop on my home station in Waterloo.
Here's some drone footage I captured today synced with a stationary camera I set up on a tripod.

Wow... what a day! I am finally home. I saw both 2017 and this year's and agree this was better! For starters, it wasn't hot and humid... it was mild and dry...just perfect weather! Hanging with the SLU meteorology students, launching balloons, was a blast! The greatness of the day was not tarnished by the nearly 7 hour drive home! Traffic was BRUTAL! But nobody was too riled up about. I thought everyone went with the flow... riding the high from the eclipse. We were definitely blessed with an amazing day. I cannot lie, I actually teared up a little at the fact that I was so priveleged to be part of it.

Bipassed all of the traffic just added 15minutes onto our drive. I’ve never seen anything like that migration back north. My daughter and I had the same reaction! Pretty dang cool experience.

It was spectacular and worth every inconvenience.

I had glasses and was still able to see it my yard. Even though it was only 98-99% totality it was still impressive. It got dark like thunderstorm clouds dark. Darker than I thought it was going to be.

I feel pretty lucky I was able to avoid most of the traffic coming home yesterday. I chose Farmington because I figured it would give me a leg up on traffic coming home. Either way, traffic is a small price to pay for seeing totality yesterday. Couldn’t ask for better weather this time of year.

Cape Girardeau was expecting 20K, poplar bluff was expecting 40K. I've heard that Cape's forecast busted with only a fraction of that amount (local media suggests hundreds showed up for the main event on the riverfront, pictures support an attendance in the magnitude of hundreds, not thousands as well). I stopped at Pevely after 3 1/2 hours, so I didn't get to see how traffic was south of 67 (where people would have turned off to go to Poplar Bluff). It would be interesting to see the economic impact reports from the eclipse on these small towns. Interesting to note that the media in Cape changed their focus from number of tourists to distance (the local newspaper says there were people from Europe were in town). It's aggravating that the city and county leaves tourism dollars on the table while surrounding towns planned and publicized events. Yes hotels were booked, but in a small town, that really doesn't mean anything because hotels can be booked with a class reunion and another event like a wedding in town. I certainly wasn't going to pay $500 for a hotel night in a town that is worth $100 at best on any other given night. I do not know what the numbers are in Poplar Bluff, but there was a Jeff Foxworthy concert the day before, so that alone would have boosted tourism in that town of 24K.
