Hopefully we'll have enough moisture for the morel crop. Last year was disappointing, at least where I hunt them...

I need to get out more and look. Maybe need to find some new places. Im not as good as my Mom was at finding them. I can remember as a kid she used to find enough to eat what we wanted and still had enough left over to freeze for later. Id like to find enough to be adle to do that too.

So far, antecedent conditions are not favorable for morels this year. Soil temps are low and moisture content are quite low across most areas. We've been running a liquid water deficit of 25-40% over the past 4 months. This has left us with soil moisture in the 10-20% percentile. It will take at least a week of very wet, warm weather to get a halfway decent season this year. Otherwise, these borderline drought conditions are going to put the damper on the harvest.

I saw a report that someone down near Branson found a few on Sunday. I also saw a report of some being found in St. Louis county Monday. Possible but suspect that report.

I havent had a chance to go since last weekend. I spoke with my cousin down near the Lake of the Ozarks and a friend of his found about 8 pounds of them. I think we need rain now.

It seems we either get the temps or the rain. I'm thinking maybe tomorrow we should start seeing some up this way. Has Britn found any yet?

I'm about 30 miles north of Brtn, found around 2lbs of grays and little yellows. Still think conditions aren't quite right up this way yet. Thinking by mid week it will be better.
