Darn near heavy snow in Waterloo. Roads were snowpacked. I'm shocked they aren't plowed on the main roads yet. Traffic was moving very slowly. Looks like the snow won't last much longer but finally we got snow and during the day and not melting. 28F according to my car. I think it was you that rallied the troops a couple days ago when this thing looked dead. Good call, enjoy the snow! Thanks! I'm trying to adopt your enthusiasm! I just felt it was too early to bail on this storm over one set of model runs 3 days out. It really ended up being a nice scenic storm.

Ripping in Waterloo. Decent sized flakes. Eyeballing I would say we have an inch so far. Time to go pick up the kids from school.

Glad I remained positive about this little storm a few days ago rather than giving up. Some of the negativity in this forum is depressing. We all love snow but some on here act like their entire happiness is created by seeing ice on the ground. Most people hate snow which I don't understand though so I get it to a degree why many of us are upset. My friend told me today that "snow is for kids and I'm an adult"

People bailing on the Wed system 3 days out because of an off hour run. Unreal. It is too soon to give up on this winter.

Lol, probably. I just know that I do complain about being missed by 30 miles but then again that's literally everyone on this forum as well. Yo u are correct, RyanD. You speak of snowstorms just up the road from you when you get barely anything (my words paraphrasing what I've seen you post in the past). I agree, that many others have posted the same, but I recall specific instances where it seems to happen to you most. Never happens to me. If I'm missed, it's a good miss....well except for one time when St. Louis city had whiteout conditions, and I had 2 inches. I remember one storm around 2013 that dumped over a foot between 64/70 while I only saw a few inches. That one was painful. I think that one was a meso band along the arctic front. I've not been posting much lately because we are moving into a new home. Just been busy but I've been following along daily. Glad someone here still thinks about me. Lol

I can't describe the level of frustration in watching that thing blow up literally 30mi away. It went from a broken pinwheel of faint returns to 35dbz+ heavy snow within hours. The river valley just eats weak, moisture starved snow storms alive. Sucks! I know Ryan speaks of that a lot. Haven't seen him post too much this year. We need a big regional snowstorm and synoptically, I do believe the pattern becomes favorable after the middle of January. Not sure how the triple vorticies are going to play out with the ssw - I hear it's good for winter weather, but who knows. Who me??

I'll add a LOL!
Anyway, I'm fine with no snow this week. We are moving into our new house and have two PODS to unload this week so if there was ever a week where I'm ok with no snow it's this week. Let's hope January can bring something. Is the polar vortex still expected to split next month?

It didn't last long but that line will likely continue to generate quick spin ups as it moves into the southern metro.

Sure looks like a quick spin-up along the leading edge east of Steelville. Very visible o in the velocity mode though no visible notch in the radar imagery.

Waning moon still pretty bright. At 4 a.m. couldn't see comet with naked eye, located with binos. Between 4:15 & 4:30 could see with naked eye, by 4:45 it was too light on the horizon. That is so awesome!! I am going to start to look for it in the evening sky next week and hope I can get a picture of it through my telescope.

IL currently sitting at a 2% COVID death rate. That's based on confirmed infections of course. In reality is is much lower.

Indeed, I've been keeping a close eye on this one. Trying to not get too excited. We are overdue though for a bright comet though it'll also bring out the tinfoil hats yelling that the pandemic is related to the comet (harbinger of doom).

I just warned my friend in Ashland to pay attention. Looks like a big hail core with that storm though I think that'll miss just south of Ashland.

I suppose if the CDC wants to call those that are slightly overweight or have marginally high blood pressure "chronic diseases" but that doesn't mean those people are at a much higher risk of dying from this virus. That's why statistics are often misleading.

I feel we are going to extremes though and it is causing panic that will lead to civil unrest. I mostly blame the big media. People are generally stupid.

60% of people in the US has a significant health problem like diabetes. Precaution is the way to go. Even a 1% death rate is huge. Imagine if 50 million people get sick. 1 % die. Way more than the 30000 that die from the flu. 60% of the elderly though would be correct.

I think it is a massive overreaction and media hype that is causing panic and may lead to social unrest. We need to be most careful with our elderly population and those with weakened immune systems. While there is no easy answer I feel cancelling entire sporting events is just ridiculous. Let the teams play in front of limited crowds.

I wonder why this thing is so much worse in Italy...they just had another massive jump in cases and deaths. Not going to lie, this is starting to rattle me a little. I also hope the HRRR is right and the supercells fire juist to my south tonight. Just wait until the US really starts testing. The number of cases will explode to alarming levels And the fatality rate will drop massively.
