Saw Dave put on fb...station has decided not to do long range forecasts anymore....but Dave will start a new facebook page and will post long range info there. For the women here, you know how you have this habit of buying the same classic lipstick color and that is the one that the powers that be decide to discontinue? It's been around forever, goes with almost everything, but instead, some erudite panel somewhere that doesn't use lipstick decides that the trendy new thing is the way to go? Thank you Dave, from those of us who really appreciate your efforts.

Over here, we do Toyota, Honda and Subaru. Safety is number one, but after that it's all about the reliability. We've had other brands transiently in the past, and our experience is that they oftentimes commit unaffordably expensive suicide at about 95k miles.
My 1999 Toyota Sienna lasted 17 years until the catalytic converter died. Wanted something newer, so we donated it. The engine and transmission never had issues and will probably go another 100k miles. My husband will only drive a Honda Civic as a commuter car. He's had several, but they didn't die from having issues, but from accidents.
I drive a 2015 Subaru Forester. I wanted the Honda Pilot but the Forester was about 10k cheaper. (Couldn't justify the purchase, my kids are older.) I love the AWD, but know that if you get a flat, you have to replace all four tires because the wear has to be the same for the traction control to work. The technology interface (GPS/radio/phone) is sort of antiquated and needs to be updated. The tech in my husband's 2017 Civic is so much better. However, it's sturdy, it's been to hell and back and it's doing great. I do hockey tournaments with one kid and college student road trips with the other, and have already put 46k on it. I've replaced the tires because of the aforementioned get a nail, you replace everything problem and the windshield because of the gravel on 141 (a pox on construction folks that don't clean up their mess). I've never had to scrape an icy window, the defroster melts anything away because the front window is electronic defrost like the back. You just start the car, come back 10 minutes later and it's all loose and good. My only regret is that I should have gotten the remote start so I don't have to leave the house to start the car on a cold morning. The heated front seats with my bad back allow me to do long drives (it's like driving with a heating pad). And I can attest that the all weather mats are the best extra feature. I once bought some mulch and my husband was supposed to unload it, but ran out of time that night. The next day we go out to the car and apparently the bags were wet inside and leaked an inch of terrible dirty water onto the mat. Not a drop hit the carpet. We just pulled it out, washed it with a hose and were good to go. 80 bucks for mats that saved the interior carpet.
There are things on the Subaru that are standard that you can't find on other brands without paying more, which is a plus. And I can put up with being annoyed with the terrible GPS and just using the one on my phone to save 10k. It does ride a bit stiffer than a Toyota or Honda. If money wasn't a problem I'd go for a Toyota Highlander or a Honda Pilot. And I'd rather buy a used Honda than a new American car. I'm sort of a made in the USA girl, but I'm done with forking out the cash for major repairs, only to have to buy another car anyway.

Congratulations Dave, on your well deserved retirement! I echo the sentiment that you continue with your long range forecasts, we always look forward to them. Hope that you're on Glover still, that's always a hoot. Enjoy your time with your family and your puppy! And please tell us when you're going out of town, that always mean that we get more weather! lol
And Congratulations to you, Chris! Will look forward to the morning news!!!

So much fun mowing this morning! Just plain putrid out there! Went outside, threw some water on particular plants, came back inside. Whatever to gardening today. Just calculated my heat index, it's 111.8. Bleeeeh.

Atleast there’s a nice breeze going. Makes it slightly less worse being outside That level of gradiation doesn't register for me. It only registers 'gross, why aren't you farther north right now?' My Eastern European genes are screaming 'help!'

If I had to work outside in this bs I would be praying for hail/wind/rain/hurricane/armageddon .... This junk is nasty on a stick. Bad enough that we have puppies to take out repeatedly . A world of no.

So far about a 1/4 of an inch. Lots of thunder and distant lightning. Temp down 22 degrees! Went from 92 to 70. This can keep up as long as it wants to.

Tornado warning near Bloomingtom!. As much as I don't want a drought I also don't want so much rain that I have to keep pumping water off my pool. I'm also tired of mowing. Lol I'll take the rain as long as it stays warm enough to keep my pool water comfortable. Yesterday I drove my daughter to Chicago for her summer internship. That tornado warning came as we were literally getting into the car after eating lunch at Panera in Normal. Opened the car door and both of our phones announced a tornado warning from NOAA. Went back inside and waited for the weather. Cell hit, hard driving rain and wind probably around the 50mph range. Strong enough to blow the outer doors open and make the lids flap on the exterior garbage cans. Warning said that it was a tornado indicated on radar. I had a 180 degree view from the windows and saw nothing. No hail. Another guest said that they had announced the warning on the overhead PA. Not one person acted like there was any concern. Uh, you're in a building where two sides of it are mostly glass with a tornado warning. It felt a little Darwinian.

Welp the jury is still out on de Fuego, their institute of volcanology says that it might not be done. The eruption may be over, but there might be further ones. And I'd like to say that THIS weather can also repeat itself as much as it wants. It's literally lovely outside right now.
