Couple of two inch branches broke from a river birch in my backyard a few minutes ago. Getting some hefty gusts.

Merry Christmas AND ...'hint of ice' LOLOLOL It's been a big stretch to have the holiday spirit after an intensely tough year but that made me laugh at the mere idea. Thanks, I needed that. (For those that get the joke, 'good times!' lol)

I’m up in northern WI trying to figure out how to avoid this myself. Added complication that I have a kid that was supposed to fly out of Chicago at 4pmon Sunday to cincy back to college. Now looking at driving from here to there instead, then the 6 hours back to stl. 16-17 hours on the road. Now thinking that we may have to leave this afternoon in order for this not to be stupid. What is fish saying?

Up in Three Lakes, WI. Temp up to 26 degrees about 3 in on the ground, forecast for winter mix on Sunday. We’re supposed to leave to drive to Chicago early, drop a college kid at O’Hare, and then drive back to STL. Have a feeling that our travel plans may be modified. How solid is it for Chicago to get real snow?

Thank you Chris for the update re Florence. You're literally being shared/viewed by extended family and some of their friends in the area, let alone in various places around the country. Not great news, but it is what it is. Just for the record, the sister whose house is at risk lost her husband a month ago, so this she definitely doesn't need. However, she has a loving and supportive family system. Probably can't say that about others in that area, so in that regard, she's blessed. I'm just going to pray that it moves faster than forecast, even though it's probably futile.

Just sitting here wondering if my sister's home is going to be destroyed by the time that this is over. Where is that exactly? North part of Newport, NC.

Addicted, just got back from the area after spending a week with family. Flew in from Raleigh and then drove three hours to Morehead City. Family in Newport. New Bern is right next to the water, you might not be far enough inland with the surge. Also know that it can flood behind you, you might be there awhile. Good luck and be safe! Get a shrimp burger at El's Drive in in Moorehead before you go home. Place is quirky, only takes cash but it's the bomb.
Adding IF it's still there. Btw, family is on it's way to Tennessee. They've never left before but they're leaving for this one. And there isn't much life between New Bern and Raleigh.

Just got back from a family funeral in Newport, NC a week ago. Sister, niece and grand niece live there. Another niece and her family live in Va Beach. No one there is thrilled about this.

If anyone is interested that channel that sounds like Hive has started the MDA Labor Day Telathon again. Who remembers that? That was THE programming for the Labor Day weekend for my entire childhood.

CA fire makes me terribly sad. Spent my childhood in the Sierras camping, and that’s how you drive I5 to go north into Oregon and Washington. Gorgeous country. Big pine trees, old volcanic ridges. Drought sucks.
