I am keeping a very tiny chance for a spot storm in the forecast for Sunday afternoon as models continue to show a weak shortwave....dipping into a developing shear zone. Just enough to pop a few storms I think. Otherwise it is a hot and dry weekend.

There may be at least some low level fire danger in the far northwestern part of our area today where extreme drought conditions have developed. Here is the HREF ensemble probability of RH < 30% and winds > 15mph for this afternoon.

CA fire makes me terribly sad. Spent my childhood in the Sierras camping, and that’s how you drive I5 to go north into Oregon and Washington. Gorgeous country. Big pine trees, old volcanic ridges. Drought sucks.

It looks like the Eastern Pacific is about to get busy and interesting. Models are showing 4 tropical systems; 3 of which may interact with each other.

Pretty dry down here around Branson and Springfield. Unless it's been watered, the grass is really dry and crunchy.

havent looked at any models but in recent years we have seen 90s well into september. way too soon to think less 90s imo. any pattern change in aug wld be temporary and may just prolong our potential for 90s.

NWS says we're supposed to see thunderstorms by 7, but there is popcorn stuff already on the radar.

NWS says we're supposed to see thunderstorms by 7, but there is popcorn stuff already on the radar. I'll vouch for that - rode the motorcycle back to work after lunch (didn't think to check radar) and ran thru a nice surprise shower just north of Fredericktown. When I popped over the hill just to the north of Fredericktown, I could see it was raining hard in town.

A few spot storms around this afternoon... but not very many. If you got wet, you were one of a chosen few.
Storm potential will be increasing tonight...and especially tomorrow...although the exact morphology of it all is still uncertain.
The best dynamics/instability overlap over central Illinois...north of STL... but there is enough bulk shear to support some strong to severe storms down into the STL area tomorrow afternoon as well. It definitely doesn't look like an all day rain...but more like a couple of loosely organized storm complexes capable of some strong wind gusts and hail.

I had a couple of sprinkles around 3 PM and enough to wet the pavement at around 530
Video, via Facebook, from Beartooth Pass Montana shot August 5. For those not familiar Beartooth Pass is on a highway that goes northeast from Yellowstone NP. Because of elevation and other factors they shut it down in September because it gets snowed in so much and it remains closed usually until June

Did you all hear about the baseball hail in CO Springs this PM? The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo had about 11 injuries and 3 animals killed. Lots of cars damaged and people were bussed away from there to a high school. No one was allowed to drive away.

Lots of cars damaged and people were bussed away from there to a high school. No one was allowed to drive away. They did reopen the road to the zoo so people can get their cars towed away. Only 2 animals were killed, a muscovy duck and a vulture. This comes on the heels of the zoo owner and the vet team deciding to put their 2 month old giraffe to sleep due to health issues. They are having a hard summer. Plus they don't know when they are going to reopen due to structure damages there.

Well, I don't live in Illinois, so It's not raining here. This has been rather annoying for months now. We stay mostly dry while things grow big time from St Louis on into IL. Last week I think we managed a quarter inch. Had a few sprinkles tonight. Yay.
