Nothing but wet pavement in Waterloo with some flurries that are good sized flakes. I'm trying not to get too excited about Thursday but I can't help not being excited. I've seen this happen before with strong cutoff lows. I think SE IL had one in March 1997. I hope I see some accumulations today but it isn't looking good unless there's further development.

It's been snowing moderately to heavy for 3 hours at Hampton and 44.
Has diminished to light snow the past 30 minutes and we barely have a dusting.
It was nice to have heavy snow today for a while but folks over SWIL have a better chance for a white ground if there is development.
The hires nam and rap show light snow this evening SE of 44.

snow has pretty much ended here.... I'm eyeballing 1.5 inches. While the Thursday system is of interest to a lot of people, I'm not interested in that unless we get some cold air feeding into it....cold air is retreating, and a fresh batch of cold air doesn't arrive until the weekend. Looking way down the road, NAO flips negative, and that might be a player for Thanksgiving and beyond. For now, I'm planning on drizzle this Thursday, a chance of flurries over the weekend with the cold front, then mainly dry up until Thursday. But then things get active again after that. GFS is pretty active in the fantasy periods, especially with cold air and southern storm track.

Moderate to heavy? I live near there and saw nothing other than very light snow today. Yeah. Between near 12pm-1:15 it was stopping and starting. You could look out down 44 and see the snow falling while nothing or flurries at quik trip. Then about 115-130 the consistent moderate to heavy snow started up. That lasted until 330. Then light snow until 445.

Hopefully the increasing coverage on the radar builds over SWIL.
If I was at home but today I would be super pissed right now.
Folks in IL mostly have be completely hosed and now the radar has blown up again over the same areas that saw snow all day.
It's really bogus.

Alton area in a great spot. This should accumulate fairly easily. Great flake size.

The NAM has a pretty solid area of frontal forcing along and SE of 44/64 essentially between 6-10pm.
So we'll see.
The hires nam picks up on this quite substantially.
