I just told my son that today’s snow is kinda like going to the Casino and winning a thousand bucks early and then by the end of the day you have 100 bucks left.... what could have been

For being Jan! I can't believe how these temps have just hovered around or just above freezing. If it would of been in the 20s during this storm, can u imagine how much more devastating it would of been! Not that it wasn't bad.

But the atmosphere is in balance. The colder the more dry air the less snow. Only extremely rare set ups like jan 1st 1999 can really bring the widespread big not snows. And our area got screwed on that one.

The dog just rang his bell to go out. When I opened the door, even he looked at me like "What the serious hell?"

Man. If we had no snow melt/rain today I’d be at 10” total. Just hit 2” from this & it’s still coming down at a nice clip.

Honestly this storm would only produce snow like this in January. Meaning we are at solar minima. If this same storm happened in Feb or sec I thing we would of all had mostly rain. We are sure finding ways to get snow and lots of it in very warm and unusual ways this season. But Lambert has already had the years worth of snow average as of today

My husband last took some measurements for me a little after 6pm here in BG. They averaged between 15-15 1/2", so going with 15. We had some really heavy snow for a long period this afternoon. Still snowing and 30* right now. Will see if dh will measure once more for me at bedtime. This hasn't quite reached the totals we had for the Jan 31-Feb 2, 2011 storm, but it sure is close.

It's pouring rain here, but I can see a giant snowflake/slushball in the mix every now and then. Weird.

Per SPC, it looks like as of one hour (02z) ago the 850mb closed low is centered over West Plains and the 700mb closed low is centered over Columbia, MO. Will we want this set up for future systems or is there just too much within the atmosphere to pin hopes and dreams on 2 parameters?
