Back home safe and sound. After Terre Haute... no snow...just drizzle and temps warmed about a degree per hour...hit 37 downtown...but down to 35 here at home. No hints of ice anywhere here. Glad the arch radiation helped.

I'm thinking maybe since it's 2019, we could just leave the clocks alone. 100% agree. It is ridiculous to continue to screw with the time. Leave it alone, one way or the other.

I'd be in favor of ending this daylight saving time thing. Let's call it quits on the penny as well while we're at it.

More like a dream run for central Iowa
Euro drops 2 feet of snow over its run there
Pretty great run for the entire Midwest though
Almost everyone in the midwest gets atleast 2" with STL getting 10" and Chitown getting 14"
I'm pretty happy with it lol. Its snowing here currently, so hard to complain about anything right now. Expect some type of WWA or ice storm warning for Tuesday here in Chicago, and then hoping for the big one Friday. Should be one hell of a week and no reason to think STL won't have some fun too. Yeah there is. Its very likely we see next to nothing here.

I do not expect there to be much...if any...additional freezing rain from I-70 south. Even though low level winds are forecast to briefly turn northeasterly tonight...any rain should remain south of the surface freeze line. As for tomorrow...the magnitude of the warm air in the elevated warm layer will lead to very warm drops reaching the ground...vs the near freezing drops we had this morning. My guess is freezing rain/freezing drizzle will be limited to areas well north of I-70 later tonight....at least based on my very quick read of current and model trends. I have given zero thought to anything past tonight. Im pooped and heading to bed.

Heck, it’s easy to see Tuesday morning being 33 degrees and rain up here in Chicago and then the Friday system turning into a pumpkin. It’s not a lock until it’s happening. Nice to have something to track though.

How bout that Blues victory today. Keep it going boys!! Phenomenal. So much fun to watch right now. #91 is over whatever was wrong with him. Maybe the surgery combined with gerneral mood of the team earlier. But that was vintage Tarasenko.

Feb 25 book it lol. In all seriousness a transition to trough in the middle conus seem to be in the works which might bring stormy wx to mid ms and ohio valley by late feb. Trough seems to be developing in gulf of alaska as well and that represents a big pattern change for march in terms of sensible wx for conus. Nonetheless, we often get our big snows in pattern changes like this so, i think this is looking good for late feb. Whether this central conus troughing pattern is sustainable for a few weeks is tbd, although i doubt it. We will possibly be in a nw flow as eventually the overall trough shifts to ec in march.

Don’t look now but the radar is filling up again! I don’t think it’ll get below 34 all night and maybe 40 tomorrow! Lovely late winter weather!

NAM doesn't show much Tuesday AM... but that's not a bad looking sounding with 8* lapse rates thru the dgz

Lovely....note sarcasm....but maybe still plenty of winter left. Calendar may be deceiving...but hey when we get that extra hour of daylight, itll be warmer. Lol

I noticed my south facing driveway melted off this afternoon but my north facing patio that was shaded is still mostly covered with freezing rain . I’m sitting at 33, I think there is still a chance for some light freezing rain mainly in north facing areas later tonight where you still have frozen ground below, especially if we drop another degree or two toward morning.

NAM doesn't show much Tuesday AM... but that's not a bad looking sounding with 8* lapse rates thru the dgz The hires shows Thundersnow. Absolutely insane lift. There would be embedded showers in this area of lift that would be pure whiteout. Probably 2-4" in 2 hours easily if this happened verbatim.

Looking at the 18z for noon on the 18th I will say this is our storm. I say that because after having almost 2 months off I will be heading back to work on the 19th. Bring it.

Rgem looks similar to the hi res NAM It's a little flatter and to slow with the CAA. But things could easily end up a little more wound up. Helping us get that cold punch. We have had quite a few snows like the hires nam shows. I can only remember one distinctively like the euro has for the end of the week. It was sometime in the early 1990s. IIRC most of us got 3-6" overnight as the rain changed to snow.

Hey guys, I need your help identifying this stuff. My friend out in Davis California was filming a drone review 2 days ago for YouTube and it started to storm and these gelatinous blobs fell from the storm mixed in with the rain. They look like clear hail except they don't melt and are squishy. He said some of them are still visible on the ground. My guess is it is some substance likely from the ocean that was sucked up in an updraft. I'm uploading his video to my Google drive so please take a quick look and let me know if you know what it may be. Thanks! I can't get the video to embed in the forum so I'll provide a link. I didn't want to upload it to YouTube in case he does as well because that could cause a copyright notice. He gave me permission to post this here. Link to Video

Something to keep in mind for the end of week storm.

out to hr 180 it is not as strung out as the 18z run and looks a little south of it and not quite the power house. Would rather it be south at this range than north, that's for sure.
