Next Friday is my birthday. I've had some snowy ones. But if this Arctic airmass invades this may be the coldest one I can remember.

I'm done forecasting for today. I am ready to fall asleep. It has been a long week at work...and I have to cover Saturday morning show too. If adjustments haven't been made tonight... I'll start the train in that direction in the morning.

The rap/hrrr have tomorrow's event confined to North of 70.
The name has a direct hit of 2" right through the central metro like Union to Belleville and St Peters to around old Monroe into I'll.
I think today's and tomorrows both miss us to the North.

not a hard call to make there. I don't think we have any snow on the ground for the arctic blast either. So no matter how cold it gets, it could have been 10 degrees colder.

Seems most clippers miss us to the NE in recent years but this pattern is hard to nail down. I would think we would see a dusting to an inch on the ground next week with the arctic front but who knows. Not really expecting anything tomorrow but would like to be surprised with a little snow.

I noticed the NAM completely missed initializing that big blob of precep to our SW
I doubt the models handle the next several days of NW flow very well

I couldn't fall asleep...so here you go... Because of the very narrow nature of the snow band for tomorrow...I wanted to give myself a little wiggle room. SO i'm posting a band of "Dusting to 2" right down the I-70 corridor. I think most spots in that band will see at least a little snow...but nailing the exact 20 mile band that gets 1-2" is impossible...so I am broad-brushing it for now. As for the cold...I'm going with a still somewhat generic wording... but focusing on the Wednesday-Thursday time frame for the coldest temps and wind chills. For now...I'm going to open up a range of 0 to -10... without specifically throwing a number on it for STL. It is interesting to see that several models are zipping a snow band through here during the day Wednesday which could also impact how low temperatures get Wednesday night..if and where skies clear out.

NWS has highs well into the 20s on Thursday and Friday..coldest highs around 20 Wed. Lows between 5 and 10. Interesting. They are being conservative given model inconsistency with the strength of the cold. They make it clear in the disco it could be colder but still "trying to get a handle on it"

Use coal, works great. I'm still skeptical...will believe it if the models still show it Sunday. Hard for me to bet against the pattern but with that said I will be cutting some more firewood this weekend to prepare. I am cutting hedge tomorrow. Love the long burn time, critical with extreme cold. Nothing worse than going to sleep wondering if there will be any coals left when you wake!
