Pretty neat radar presentation with the various frontal boundaries/convergence zones lined up. Definitely looks like a damp day with bouts of showers and drizzle into this afternoon/evening.

There is a time and a place for this kind of weather but it's not April 18… it's just gross outside.

It should last well into tonight...and perhaps even tomorrow...especially across southern Illinois.

Lovely, thank you! We have to drive from Festus to Ballwin for a funeral later on today and had hoped it'd go away!

this constant heavy rain has become kinda heartbreaking. After 9 years of never having water problems, just as we've poured several thousand into fixing up our house to be able to sell (and move into a bigger one that fits our larger family), we have seepage problems at two different spots in the basement (where the wall and floor meet). I'm just kinda lost mentally over this junk. And no, I don't have like $15,000 to excavate my yard to fix it, so please don't suggest it

Not even trying to sell but this year has been especially brutal for my basement.

Yep, and the NHC report here includes several reasons for the upgrade to 140kt cyclone: 1. SFMR measurement of 138kts in the south eyewall. Also noted was raw SFMR data indicating 152kts, but this was caveated as potentially unreliable due to biases and shallow water. 2. Radar analysis indicates that maximum flight level winds would have been between 155-160kts had the aircraft sampled those areas. Additional analysis indicated that surface equivalent winds were between 135-149kts. 3. Pressure wind relationship analysis using several techniques yielded a range of 139-142kts. 4. Satellite estimates using several techniques yielded a range of 140-145kts. So the upgrade was definitely based on good solid observations and analysis.

A well deserved upgrade. 4th(known) Cat 5 in history to make landfall on US soil.

There was Labor Day, Camille, Andrew, and Michael. But Typhoon Yutu also made landfall on the US territory island of Tinian in the Northern Mariana Islands last year as a Cat 5.
