Finally heading home What a day of chasing...and frustration... to be so close but unable to see! That was the strongest circ I have seen since Good Friday. It was intense. I suspect we will find extensive damage from the air tomorrow.

Tornado threat had moved out, Blues headed to Boston. Is it time to talk about the river forecasts again?
Mississippi is currently forecasted to get back up to 42 feet again and that doesn't take into account the next few days of rain

Could there be another round of severe weather tomorrow night and into Thursday morning? Ya I’d keep an eye on that. Plenty of instability and shear

Tornado threat had moved out, Blues headed to Boston. Is it time to talk about the river forecasts again? Mississippi is currently forecasted to get back up to 42 feet again and that doesn't take into account the next few days of rain Perhaps the most important development is now on the Missouri where it is forecasted to reach 36.6 ft in St. Charles which would be the highest crest since 1993 (and roughly 5 ft higher than the previous crest this month). I don't know how much of today's rain was included in that forecast, but my gut says the eventual crest may be higher than that.

10 day ensemble mean QPF on Euro and GFS look very wet in the Missouri and Upper Mississippi river basins unfortunately. And the official WPC 7 day forecast shows widespread 1.5-4" rainfall amounts in these areas.

For any of you who saw it... how did radar scope look on the air?

For any of you who saw it... how did radar scope look on the air? perfect! I thought the cut aways of the initial tornado with velocity were great at illustrating it live on the fly. I may have been watching you drive north on 44 while I was driving south to keep track if I needed to take a pit stop before getting home.

Of course the heaviest rain hit with 3 minutes to go in the game and my satellite went out.... had to watch the end on my phone lol That's why you ditch satellite and go to streaming and save lots of money too. I don't ever lose tv unless my internet goes down which happens maybe once every few years and unless I lose power I always have access to my HD antenna feed via Plex.

For any of you who saw it... how did radar scope look on the air? Your radar looks A LOT better on TV than the station's. You should push to switch. Much easier to see storm features.

Also, i really wish we had a camera on the roof at The Rec in Fairview. We were really close.
Chris, what's the procedure to get an art van cam?

River at Alton is rising quickly...1.5ft rise in 24hrs...well ahead of forecast. I'm concerned about heavy, training rainfall tonight along the MO basin and across the MS. Thinking we could very well see a crest on the MS that exceeds the level seen earlier this month...and certainly on the MO.

2.10" for me. Very thankful that all we had was some wind and rain.
Chris, you did a great job. Your knowledge and observation skills really shine in these situations. Thank you for a very long day of keeping us all safe and informed.

They just got Truman Blvd in St. Peters reopened a few days ago after the Elm Point levee break. Don't think they've had a chance to fix the levee yet so if the Mississippi goes that high Truman will probably go underwater again.

Post by addicted2wx - Villa Ridge, Mo on May 22, 2019 11:21:32 GMT -6
Thought I’d give you all an update on the rotation that came through here. As I said I seen this first hand and the rotation that came through Villa Ridge looked/was literally and entire rain wrapped looking tornado. (Ironically enough I was babysitting the same kids I was with when I was the one person to first confirm and convey the at time unreported Crawford County tornado so I had to get them safe immediately so no time for video but apparently they are my good luck now for seeing tornadoes lol) Anyhoo I got out today and inspected the damage and it took out a 6”/8”/&14” diameter tree out. The 8” was snapped in half. Other numerous branches are down and one other area appears like the tornado bounced down in the center of the woods. It also blew down my tripod deer stand. On top of that high elevation field I hunt. I tried taking photos but they are useless because the woods is so thick you’d have to be here in person to follow the path but based on the minimal damage I would say what I seen was the beginning moderate funnel stage of the twister that hit Augusta. It was a pretty strong hit here and certainly neat to see. What was somewhat unique was after the funnel passed and the deeper core was heading towards the Labadie area...the rain stopped and sporadic chunks of dime size hail came spitting out of the sky in random directions. Certainly an odd phenomenon I’ve never seen like that before.

I'd keep an eye on the storms tonight. The environment around here will be supportive of severe weather throughout the night
