00z gfs coming in with one of the nastiest ice storm setups you’ll ever see in the day 9-10 range.
Amazing artic air undercutting tons of precip.
That is a prolific setup

That has to be one of the, if not THE most epic GFS runs I’ve ever seen. Huge ice/snow storm this weekend, Massive ice storm next week, and record cold following. Holy jumpin

There is a monumental difference between the ICON and GFS regarding the end of week.
6z GFS has a low sitting over eastern Canada that allows a feed of cold Canadian air.
ICON has a different flavor of this feature, but keeps the feed flatter, and doesn’t allow this storm to tap it.
Typically, with cold air not in place already, it takes that feed from the NE to get anything frozen to fall in mass. At this point, the ICON conceptually fits my thinking on the end of the week, which is a cold, soaking rain. Just looked at the 00Z Canadian, and it lends support to the ICON.

12z gfs is looking a bit north with the precip.
Should be a heavy hit of ice and snow for parts of Missouri and Illinois

12z GFS looks similar to the euro last night. Predominantly rain with the WAA then a switch to ice and snow as the big upper low ejects and starts to wind up
