Just had a few pints of sleet in southern portion of Waterloo. Pinged for about a minute, then stopped.

Chris picked the right 2 weeks...we do this again at least twice through the next 2 weeks. Synoptic pattern is uncanny similar.

It’s actually really created a spotty radar. More showers and breaks , than a consistent band

Dry air may win with this one and we may ne above freezing quickly. Which is fine by me.

Dry air may win with this one and we may ne above freezing quickly. Which is fine by me. Dry air most definitely not win. It is doing what it was supposed to do... take a bite out of the leading edge and lead to evaporative cooling. Precip will continue to increase as lift increases in response to the WAA aloft. You can see the radar hole collapsing around STL right now.

Mostly sleet here in Warrenton with a few flakes mixing in. Driveway is getting pretty slick.

Few sleet pellets on my deck. Literally "a few." I could probably count them if I was so inclined (which I'm not).

Here's a couple aircraft soundings about 40 minutes apart at Lambert. The dry layer is saturating and bringing the temp aloft closer to the wetbulb temp to more of a sleet profile. And yes there does seem to be an obvious problem with the temp at the surface on the second sounding which raises some question about the rest of its data, but it's probably close enough to demonstrate the point.

For those that have never seen one this is what a ground blizzard looks like. Proof the snow doesn't have to be falling to create a driving nightmare.
