GFS has a shallow subsidence inversion, even though the column 900mb and up is saturated. I wouldn't worry about it. Mesoscale stuff isn't meant to be analyzed through the GFS Thanks, I am watching this pretty close because I have to be in Chesterfield at 2pm tomorrow and probably wont get back home until 6-7pm. I'd just take it slow. Expect to need extra time. These systems are sneaky and the public typically doesn't give them enough respect.

Is that lake effect snow marching SW through central Illinois? It sure looks like it when looking at the Chicago and Lincoln radars

The Canadian Armed Forces have been called in to help dig out Newfoundland. And it's snowing again there. St.. John's has declared a state of emergency.
Great article with pictures and videos.

Nice , thanks for the update World Series. It looks like most models shifted the clipper just west of the metro. The RAP gives us a dusting , the HRRR hard the band from Warren county west

Went to Clarksville today to see the eagles. They were very active. I’d say we saw no less than a dozen at a time flying over the river trying to feed. The cold weather I think helped. You could just go to dry fork road and see them as well We had one soaring over the house yesterday down where nobody lives.

Cards, what do you consider the HI Res NAM and where do you usually look at it? There are about (5) NAMs on tropical tidbits

Clouds last night kept the temp from dropping into the single digits. So our coldest temperatures were still in November.

Here is a nice loop of today's system. Looks pretty robust but we are usually 'leaning to the left' of the computer screen trying to coax the system to move more south-southeasterly. This one appears to be heading due south.WTH I like the ability to be able to pause the loop, then click on the frame and a box opens up that you can hover over and the image zooms in wherever you want. Clicky

Very light flurries 7 miles west of de soto. Must have been most of the night. A few areas you can see snow on the ground/grass. You have to look very hard. Thermo still on the fritz.

Question...GFS has upper level temps PLENTY cold to support snow Thursday night into Friday morning, yet it is spitting out rain (other models for the most part show snow). Is this just because the surface temps are 33-35?

Post by Snowman99 on Jan 20, 2020 10:01:26 GMT -6
GFS has another inch or so of rain later in the week, cold rain. No snow here. Though it may be trending in that direction.
