Not wanting to be a jerk, but ICD's principal needs to take some ownership on this. Chris shouldn't have to directly comment on specific calls like this in public beyond what is in his on-air and online forecasts. There is a significant threat of an ice event tomorrow. That's clear from all available forecast sources. If schools do a half-day tomorrow, they may be taking a risk on safety getting home. No one will know for sure until tomorrow. Not a jerk thing to say so no offense taken. The early dismissal has me alarmed for the safety of our parish, the families and children who attend school there. There's been a lot of confusion with this storm but with ice being a potential threat, I agree, safety comes before everything else especially if there is doubt on behalf of the person responsible for hundreds of children/families.
But as it stands, it seems he is unclear based on his reply to my reply of my concern for an early dismissal at 11am. ------------------------------
Brennan,
If you could forward me some sources to track this storm I would appreciate it.
Thank you for your help.
In Christ, Dan
Can’t he just follow suit with the public schools around him? Or be the hero and give the kids the day off. If it’s a bust, sobeit. If it’s not, he’s a hero. Either way, kids will be happy. Parents won’t but as a parent, I’d deal with it. I’m waiting on Lindbergh to call.

Wentzville is already off tomorrow for a Professional Development day. It will be interesting to see if they make us come and/or stay as things develop. You should have just got the answer to your question. All buildings closed tomorrow. Including central office.

Desoto is first JeffCo school to call. Waiting on Fox they usually pull pretty quick. I don't think they'll try to get a half day in.
Ah, they didn't disappoint, Fox called off Ice Day

Parents won’t but as a parent, I’d deal with it. I’m waiting on Lindbergh to call. Now that Fort Zumwalt and Francil Howell have called off, I'm hoping he revises soon. Seems the call is up to him but based on his replies, seems hes not unwilling to revise and call it. I think he's trying to scramble for answers and I'm sure it's a battle of the parents demanding school in session vs the opposition. It interrupts our schedules as parents but the concern for safety is 1st and foremost.

As a former public school parent, I’d be calling my kids off myself. Remember fog-mageddon? There were kids stuck at schools because they couldn’t leave. Public schools have nine days budgeted per year. Being cheap is taking a hell of a risk. Kids stuck at school or on a bus on the roads? Terrible judgement to risk that. Especiallsince the taxpayer has already paid for this. And is MODOT pretreating? We’ve paid for that too.

Sullivan is still in session at this point, but my brood is staying home by the fire, regardless...

RGEM tends to be a bit of a "hype" model so careful taking it a face value. Latest guidance is trending towards more ice tomorrow

Are we still looking at winds of 10-15 mph with gusts to 25 mph? How concerned will we be about ice accretion and wind speeds causing outages?

Could the advisory be changed to a watch or warning of some type?

Verbatium the GFS has a 1/2" of ice for the metro
You can probably cut that in half to get a more realistic value but that's still impactful ice

I doubt we see any type of warning hoisted, but the latest guidance does suggest criteria could be met in places

I know we shouldn’t go to work tomorrow but I’m still struggling with the decision. If I don’t that’s 9 hours I gotta make up next week. Hate doing that but will access the situation in the am.

Yeah, I mean even if accretion is 50% of QPF that would be close to Winter Storm Warning criteria. One obvious mitigating factor is the rising temperatures that will cap the impact of this event if not by magnitude then certainly by longevity.

The disco sounds like much more sleet than Freezing Rain (at least relative to what I am seeing in other posts) which I think would be a big positive to limiting the impact of the event. That said, I would guess the snow and sleet alone would be more than enough to wreck havoc on the roads, so I don't want to downplay that aspect.
