Instability showers quickly bubbling up with the cold core/vort max digging in...gonna be some quick hitting downpours until the sun sets. Had one about 3 or 3:30. Lasted for about 30 seconds.

Had a 40° temp on the truck this morning in a low area that is normally 2-3° lower then the rest of the area.

There was nothing in the forecast and I don't see anything in the ground clutter on radar. But I have a few dark clouds going overhead that look like they could drop a few sprinkles or maybe something more substantial

Definitely an unsettled look to the sky. Low level lapse rates are pretty steep

I like this pattern we are in, but maybe too dry. Still too early. Sat looks like a sneaky ripple in the WNW flow producing some rain...maybe a quick 1-2" er come time 2+ months from now when winter is here!

I was just getting ready to say the same, we were racing at Gateway 2 weeks ago, and the Pelicans are getting pretty heavy in that area. Snow geese are migrating, but not through the central Mississippi Flyway yet, more central states.

You really can't expect a solid 3 weeks of cool air this time of year...next week looks to moderate for sure, but no blowtorch in sight.

No one expected 3 solid weeks of cool weather. But cool, then maybe a bit of a warm up then cool again..even Chris said it was going to hang around for a few weeks.

I said the pattern would stick around for up to 3 weeks... where its cool stretches interrupted by warm-ups. But definitely not a solid 3 weeks of cold...nor a solid 3 weeks of warm either. In the end, it is pretty evenly split between the two... which makes for a pretty nice Fall set-up.

lol I had a fan in my window Has to be sub-teens before my window gets closed. Below 50 before I open it, otherwise it's A/C. I know...you shouldn't run them that cold, but I've never had a problem yet.

We tuned ours on for one night last week. Had the furnace people come out to do the furnace check, and found out our heat exchanger was cracked. Got a whole new furnace and AC installed. I'm ready for cold and hot.

Fournd it before we needed the furnace on. Was glad we had the inspection done with early enough to get the furnace replaced before it got really cold.

I know...you shouldn't run them that cold, but I've never had a problem yet. It’s felt great this week by the lake. I would love to see a system like we did today in January. Intense snow squalls instead of heavy rain. I’m very optimistic for a big winter for us this year. I’m going 50 inches at O’hare. I think STL gets caught in the”battle zone” and has a hard time breaking 20 inches. Not bad, and probably a big mixed bag storm, but don’t think it’s a blockbuster back home.

Persistent troughing in the northwest and western Canada will be the bane of our existence this Winter looking at overall trends. Also very strong trends of intense upper level ridging right over the mid-Mississippi river valley into the southern plains. Unless both of those break anything other than a no-winter or only brief weak cool downs is all we can expect going forward. If the trough shifts west enough over the winter we could cash in on some muddy rain events but snow and ice may be tough to find especially the first half of the Winter.
