From Dave's disco...perfect, lmao
Then the Arctic air starts to dig into the nation...been talking about this for over week...still some questions of where the coldest weather will be...we will be colder...but leaning toward a split of the arctic cold...one batch...just to our north, over the Great Lakes, the Ohio Valley and the Northeast...the other split digging from the northern plains into and down the Rockies...lots of questions but that is the page I’m on right now. Friday and over the weekend...it is colder...no deep cold at night but cold and mainly in the 30’s for high temps. Thinking this dig of cold will still be in play until Tuesday or Wednesday of the following week...so the surge of cold January 15th to 20th. Now this brings up the question of moisture...I don’t see any big systems for us...but thinking we will see some snow in the cold...just rather limited...the big storm of this cold shot will be the southeast and up the east coast into new england.

Bryan, TX is reporting 5.5" of snow. That is deep south Texas. I remember seeing palm trees when I was there a few years ago. Unreal

in case you're wondering where all the wintertime snow and cold is....look no further than Madrid, Spain. I'm seeing images on facebook of them digging out from under more than 2 feet of snow. It has been a historic winter for them, and they are accustomed to almost no snow at all.

It’s a total guessing game at this point, the models are showing cold and some storms after the next 5-6 days. No one knows where a storm is going to wind up 7-15 days out. It’s a total crap shoot. We could have suppression city or the good ole five day cold pattern only to moderate and watch a cutter go to our west and rain in St. Louis . Hopefully we get something but I don’t think anyone on here is holding their breath. It would be great to get into a 1-2 week period with a few storms or clippers. The good thing is we don’t have a blow torch pattern coming up with no shot of snow. I always tell people, you have to have the cold to get snow or ice. We really don’t want deep crazy cold.

Pretty amazing to see snow on the radar in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Texas and Louisiana.......

What’s even crazier is some of the videos out of Deep South Texas today , middle of the day heavy snow covered roads with palm trees and swimming pools in the back rounds . Giant wet hampsters falling out of the sky. It was fairly warm there this week, I was shocked at how bad some of the roads looked so far south in Texas during the daytime with temps 33-34 . Crazy heavy precipitation rates will overcome anything I guess

My wife’s family in Dripping Springs, TX (about 30 miles west of Austin) got 4 inches. Definitely a rarity for them so I had her uncle Send me pics and vids all day. Having been on that range several times it’s hard to imagine that much snow in that terrain. Hill country topography helped with that too.

Some of my co-workers in and around Austin have posted videos of the snow falling and the snow people made. Pretty remarkable.

Interesting looking sounding around here Friday. Very steep lapse rates from 0-3km that leads to some CAPE that intersects the DGZ. Could be some beefy snow squalls if the low level dry air isn't too strong

Man I hate starting this year like this. From Sept-Dec it's so nice because you have all the Holidays to look forward to. So it keeps you busy and occupied. But in Jan there really is nothing. So that's why a nice big snow or ice storm to track is always so nice keep things interesting. But when it's slow and we got nothing, its soooooooo boring! Ugh
Even Chris hasn't been very involved, which makes it worse. His input and enthusiasm makes it much better.

Winter storm tracking helps get me through the cold and gloomy time that is January and February. Once you get to March it’s easier because you start getting into some warmer days. Unfortunately next weekend’s system has disappeared.

No euro , it has a few flurries possible Friday/Friday night. It has the low way up in the Great Lakes like all the other models. There is really no model concentration of any storms in the future 10-15 days maybe around the 20-22 timeframe a possible storm . Even the cold air they all were forecasting seems to come and go on the different runs

i was wondering why the forecast was for 40 this weekend too. thickness progs would suggest a cold northwest flow and cloudy conditions similar to what we got this past weekend. but it does look like at the surface a more westerly wind, scrubbing any real cold out. i thought 40 was pretty bold and still do. maybe a 1 minute after midnight kind of thing. but in any case this weekends cold front, as strong as it is, the antecedent ams is pretty mild. im thinking afternoon highs on saturday mid to upper 30s. signs if a similar warmup after the weekend ahead of an even stronger cold front but thats looking way out there.

I'd tell you guys I've seen nothing but sun or snow since I've been in Colorado... but we're also in a hefty freakin' drought. Hoping for a wet monsoon season... not looking forward to a summer of raging fires.
