Question: For the immediate metro: Snow will pick up again around 10a? Heaviest after 12p? Ya snow should start falling again soon with the heaviest from noon to 6pm today

This is when it gets tough to decide what to do with today and work. My shift is from 10-730pm in Richmond Heights. Obviously it’s not the getting there I’m concerned about.....what would you do in my shoes?

I have not measured as I live in a wind tunnel. Based on how the snow filled in tire tracks and foot prints from outdoor goofiness last evening... I would say we have had over 2" here in Mascoutah.

Proof where my ruler was for 2 inches That's snow depth. Not necessarily new snowfall. I'm probably close to 2" on depth as well. Now clear off a hard flat surface once...driveway, table, or something and report just new snowfall. Do NOT measure in grass. If you suspect drifting then measure in several spots and average. Good luck.

This storm continues to look amazing on satellite and radar...mid-level low closing off over OK/KS and headed right towards us while taking on negative tilt. That will put us square in the deep lift ahead of it with several hours of heavy snow later this morning and afternoon.

5 miles SW of Desoto ended up w/ 2.3” from that first wave. Looks like we hit 0 for an overnight low. Sitting at 1 right now. Enjoy the day folks! We will remember it forever!

One more big shout out to those SSW and associated PV splits.
It took a long time to get the impacts at the surface we wanted, but this stretch of winter has been absolutely insane.
Delayed, but not denied.

I keep looking on wide view radar for evidence of the 'def zone' to get going and it seems the nw side keeps drying up vs. growing toward the NW around the circulation. Is that just a factor of poor radar coverage in southern MO??? Also looking to try and gauge/guess the location of any pivot point as the storm goes full negative.

I only measure 1" of new snow this morning. My snow box had more a drift in it & varied depths than the protected area near the house.
For the snow box do I measure highest & lowest, then average?

Estimated another 1-2” overnight in SPI. It’s hard to tell with the blowing and drifting. More than I expected when I went to bed

I tried the snowbox thing in 2014. I thought it was more trouble than what it was worth. You get eddys that drift and sift the snow. I'd scrap the box altogether to be honest.

As we are updating the forecast I'm confused. The predictions today of 5-8 or these computer models showing more. Is this on top of the 2-4 inches that fell already?

If I'm looking at this correctly Tulsa is reporting 4.2" of snow on 0.2" of precip yesterday. 21:1 ratio...definitely good reason to start estimates at 20:1 today I think.
